CONTINUED EDUCATION - The USPA coach certification - Part 2: explanations from Director Lord Elliot

Lord Elliot, Director of Coaches Certification, explains the program. Part 3 comprises the Sillabi. PLW - When was the USPA coach certification program created and what was the rationale for that? Lord Elliot - I became a CA State Referee in December of 2011 to give back to a sport that has been part of my life since 1989 when I was 13yrs old and while I was sitting in the chair judging squats, I thought of an idea to improve the movement of the athletes in the USPA. During the year of creating the program I didn’t want to reinvent the wheel of what was being offered to the sport. I wanted to take the direction of biomechanical movement to teach coaches, trainers, and athletes how to move optimally based on their structure and style of technique. During my extensive research I contacted Tom DeLong to assist me with completing the manual and he presented to me an idea he had been wanting to do for years which I agreed to be the direction of the program. In June of 2013 I founded National Academy of Strength and Power, NASPOWER, as an online education course for coaches, trainers, and athletes. In the summer of 2014, Steve Denison wanted to discuss a course for the USPA and after many months, Tom and I created a live seminar program of the same NASPOWER materials and new material specifically for the USPA to certify coaches. We started with a second edition of the manual and revised the program to its latest version of edition 2.3. We are continuously making improvements to the program with the latest research to be part of the leaders of the fitness industry educating the fitness community with the objective to grow the sport.
