Rise of Women's Powerlifting

Mon, 05/06/2019 - 22:48 -- admin
In 1973 Jan Todd began her illustrious career. She became the first woman to deadlift over 400 pounds, squat over 400 pounds, total 1000, 1100 and total over 1200! She was the first female powerlifting superstar. During that time another great was Ann Turbyne Andrews. She was a shot put sensation who burst on the scene in the late 1970s, winning the 1980 IPF Wolrds with a 451 squat 253 bench at 468 deadlift! She retired shortly after but made her mark on the powerlifting world. Then a new chapter in women's lifting began with the emergence of Bev Francis!

Bench Tip of the Day!

Tue, 04/30/2019 - 11:13 -- admin
powerlifting by Bill Gillespie Bench Tip of the Day! How much weight should cut for a contest? That isn't really the question you should be asking. Instead you should be asking, How much weight can I put back on from weigh ins to the time to compete. If you have a two hour weight you might be able to cut a lot and make weight but your body is shot for the competition because you can't get the fluids back in you fast enough. If you have a 24 hour weigh in then you can put a lot of weight back on. I personally

powerlifting mr.3k14 Today was a good day. Benched my Opener of 1,015lbs. Which was a long time PR for me. Took 1,050lbs on my last attempt close miss. I am truly grateful for the team i have around me. I couldn't do the things i do with out them. The Future is Bright. #WPO2019 #WestsideBarbell #WestsideVsTheWorld #WorldPowerliftingOrganization #WPO #MyWPO Here is Another Angle of my 1,015lb (461KG) bench press from this weekend. Video courtesy of the Queen of power herself @queenbeepower. I think I've got the wheels turning on the old bench press again.

Kody Blazek VS Rostislav Petkov

Sun, 04/28/2019 - 10:37 -- admin
2018 US Open Champ and ATWR at 165 Petkov came into the US Open to repeat as winner this time at 181. However, Kody Blazek had other plans! The squats began with Petkov taking the early lead with 727 to Blazek's 722. During the bench things flip flopped as Blazek hit 462 to Petkov's 435. When it came down to the deadlift Petkov made his 705 deadlift and Blazek missed his 738 opener due to what appeared to not have been fully locked at the top. 2nd attempts once again a flip flop occurred with this time Petkov having an issue with his pull of 749. He made it easily but lost balance at the top.
