The first one was done right;bring your best shirt, all Feds. on one stage, No hoakie drug test to cause contraversies and just see who has the best bench! It's went to shit since then.
That's what a thread over at Anabolic Minds asks. Nothing like some good music to heighten workout intensity. Here are some of the favorites:
- Linkin Park
- Rage Against the Machine
- System of a Down
- Guns N Roses
- Marilyn Manson
- Iron Maiden
- Judas Priest
- Black Sabbath
Steven Brown took second in the 319 unequipped class with a 1,502 pound total. In the process he benched a WDPFP World Record 451 pounds.
Judith Gedney totalled 589 pounds, which included World Records in each of her three lifts on her way to winning the 97 pound equipped class.
I think far too often we as powerlifters / bodybuilders fail to recognize the fact that we are blessed to be healthy enough to do what it is that we love to do. I myself never took the time to recognize those who are NOT as fortunate in life either physically or mentally.. The experience was unbelievable, and it made me realize how much I have taken for granted. I never thought what it would be like if I could NOT physically bend down to DL....without help from a prosthetic limb. I never thought what it would be like to bench, but not be able to hear the rack command. I learned these things today from athletes that obviously gave 110% on every single lift, and were just happy to BE there. I never saw a group of people more genuinely HAPPY, and supportive in my entire life... It was so inspiring to see men and women who had every right to be pessimistic, depressed, and sad about life, yet were so optimistic, and enthusiastic... So I say to all of you.....don't lose sight of how lucky we all are to be healthy, both in mind and body. Don't forget how lucky we all are to fully involve ourselves in the sport we love. For some people....powerlifting is the only time where they can be TRUELY respected for what they do, and who they are....
I think we all get a little too comfortable (from time to time) and forget that the wights our people are lifting could easily kill.
Others had a more fruitful year:
im weaker than i was at the beginning of the year.
I just started lifting in September, an I really didn't set any goal other than to get stronger, and that I did.
My goal was to turn myself into a sick mother frickern and not listen to any "nay sayers". I have succeeded and am looking forward to plenty of steel, rest, and gains next year.
In RAW meets only a leather belt may be worn with a non-supportive singlet. No other supportive gear may be worn. This includes, but is not limited to, wrist wraps, knee wraps, tape applied around a limb or finger, supportive lifting suit, supportive briefs, supportive shirt.
The 100% Raw Powerlifting Federation's Holiday Cash Bench Bash results have been posted. Lifts included a big 600 pound bench by John Dolan in the superheavyweights. Bill Blackstone in the 198's and Andrei Loginov in the 165's gave a good run at double bodyweight benches.
Try several different set ups, and then find what works for your benching style. Try spreading your legs. Try bringing them in and squeezing the bench between them. Try flatfooted, and try a big arch with your feet behind you (I do this, but I also get my heels on the floor). If you bench flat-footed, try this little trick: lift up your big toe. This helps a lot of lifters keep their ass down, and also helps them get tight. Keep experimenting and trying new things. Who knows, in the process you may come up with an original idea that works for you.
