The Positive Side Of Powerlifting

On the Internet, powerlifting can sometimes come across negatively; often appearing as a sport divided, chock full of infighting and rampant pettiness. But we all know that powerlifting is a much more positive sport in so many ways. One of those ways is illustrated in this Iron Addicts thread.

I think far too often we as powerlifters / bodybuilders fail to recognize the fact that we are blessed to be healthy enough to do what it is that we love to do. I myself never took the time to recognize those who are NOT as fortunate in life either physically or mentally.. The experience was unbelievable, and it made me realize how much I have taken for granted. I never thought what it would be like if I could NOT physically bend down to DL....without help from a prosthetic limb. I never thought what it would be like to bench, but not be able to hear the rack command. I learned these things today from athletes that obviously gave 110% on every single lift, and were just happy to BE there. I never saw a group of people more genuinely HAPPY, and supportive in my entire life... It was so inspiring to see men and women who had every right to be pessimistic, depressed, and sad about life, yet were so optimistic, and enthusiastic... So I say to all of you.....don't lose sight of how lucky we all are to be healthy, both in mind and body. Don't forget how lucky we all are to fully involve ourselves in the sport we love. For some people....powerlifting is the only time where they can be TRUELY respected for what they do, and who they are....

this is what i keep saying about PLing. its a life style, its not about #s. sure the numbers are nice but its not how we are truly judged. i would compete whether i had big #s or small #s... the heart is where PLing springs from and returns to. those who choose not to compete but rather sit on the sidelines and mock are the only losers.

Powerlifting is one of the most inclusive sports or activities I've ever participated in. With few exceptions, everyone is pulling for everyone, and most everyone is willing to help out anyone who asks for it. I'm very proud of my sport, and plan to be a part of helping it grow.
