Linda Okoro pulls big!

Linda Okoro, a member of UHD Powerlifting, the powerlifting club of the University of Houston-Downtown, put on an epic deadlift performances at the WABDL Southern Regional Championships in Dallas on Saturday, July 31. She opened with 363.7 for a new WABDL National Collegiate Record, and then pulled an even smoother 407.7 on second for a new meet PR. On third attempt, she pulled an equally smooth 435.2 to break the Junior and Open National Records. On fourth attempt, she went 458.3 for the Junior and Open World Records, and she looked like she had another twenty pounds in her. The Open World Record that Linda broke was held by Imelda Zamora of Mexico and was set in 2005. The Junior World Record was held by Finland’s Riikka Ylitalo and was set in 2003. Linda is looking to take a shot at 500 at 165 by the end of the year. What makes Linda Okoro's deadlift even more notable is that she suffered from severe scoliosis, had reconstructive back surgery about ten years ago, and still has a number of rods in her back. Here’s a pic of her 458.3.

We're all very proud of Linda. If she stays at 165, her next goal is 500+, and she has the tools to do it. If she goes back to 148, she wants to take the current WABDL WRs there. We're also looking forward to how she does at USAPL Collegiates in the spring. Great to hear from a UH graduate, Tim. Be sure to check out our team website by clicking the link in my signature line. I'm working with some main campus lifters to get a club started down there, as well.
