Finland's Jonas Rantanen (308) totalled an all-time record of 2,678 pounds (1,215kg) on Saturday at the GPC affiliate, FPO Kasino Powerlifting meet in Lahti, Finland. The total surpasses Chuck Fought's 2,670 pound record total from 2008. It is also the highest by a Finnish lifter in any weight class in powerlifting history. Rantanen squatted 1,113 pounds (505kg), benched 771 (350kg), and added a 793 pound (360kg) deadlift. He passed on his third squat, twice missed a 793 pound (360kg) bench press, and missed his final deadlift. Here is video of Rantanen from the meet. Squat:

Not sayin' it was "ass-to-calves", nor does it have to be but, it was the deepest 1100+ squat I've seen. Congrats.

Man that was crazy strong! Must be a pretty strong bencher to jump from 771 to 893, if he get's it in the future though, that'll put him at 2800 Nice work. Now the question, will that total still be the No.1 in two weeks????

That's a mistake...he went to 793, not 893.

Impressive. His right leg on the deadlift was quivering, not locked. Squat looked a little high, but I guess close enough in that federation. Anyway, more than I can do.

I will be back for this world record, congrats to Ratanen though. From that angle the squat didnt look all that good, but I know all about cameras. Matt Wenning

Only Brent Mikesell and Steve Goggins has done it deeper. I truely believe that Jonas will add 40-60lbs to that next month at GPC Europeans Slovakia.
