powerlifting by Bill Gillespie Bench Tip of the Day! How much weight should cut for a contest? That isn't really the question you should be asking. Instead you should be asking, How much weight can I put back on from weigh ins to the time to compete. If you have a two hour weight you might be able to cut a lot and make weight but your body is shot for the competition because you can't get the fluids back in you fast enough. If you have a 24 hour weigh in then you can put a lot of weight back on. I personally have put on 23# in less than 24 hours after weigh ins. At weigh ins I felt like there was no way I could lift anything and 24 hours later I felt great and set a world record. video #2 Last set of bench 806 x 3. I got 785 for 5 on the previous set but I didn’t get it on video. Thank you Spencer, Zach and Hunter for the spot. Great job!
