World Power Rankings Added

Effective November 1, 2008, Powerlifting Watch began tracking and compiling Power Rankings for lifters from around the world. The Powerlifting Watch Power Rankings is a ranking of the top totals from the prior year, after adjusting for weight class and federation rule differences. Like the existing American Power Rankings, the new World Power Rankings include an equipped and a raw set of rankings.

Are you going to break down the squat bench and deadlift world rankings as well? If so Id say thats a great job!

Dru,

I have considered that and have put the necessary system in place. However, if I do, they would be part of the Lifter Rankings rather than the Power Rankings. That means they would be available by subscription only. Unfortunately, I don't believe enough people around the world (who aren't already signed up) would be interested in paying for those rankings that it would justify the ENORMOUS increase in time that it would take to keep them. If I can be shown to be wrong, I'd move ahead with them.

Well John I think people would like to see where their lift ranks world wide. If you do it cool, if not thats cool too.

Thanks for doing this.

Why isn't Yarymbash on there?

For what meet? The Rankings started for international lifters on November 1.

I personally think this ranking sucks!
Can you explain how it works?

Look at these two ladies.

#5 Suzie Hartwig-Gary (123) T-744 Pts-555
#7 Jenn Rotsinger (123) T-805 Pts-546

Now how can Suzie be ranked over Jenn? Both feds allow knee wraps. Is it because one is tested, and the other isn't? If so how can you prove Suzie is drug free all the time, and how can you prove that Jenn is not clean?

Another example: #2 is a 165er, and she out totalled the #3 lady by only 3 lbs., and #3 is a 148er!

Testing is a factor in the formula. It would explain how two people lifting in the same weight class under the same conditions (eg. APA and AAPF) who totalled the same, wouldn't be ranked the same.

The one in October: http://www.powerliftingwatch.com/node/9315

I'd be interested to know where your rankings place him even if he's not added to the list.

He would likely be near the top. The rankings are calculated automatically from data entered into a database so I don't have his points available.

Keep up the good work, Jon!

YOu get points for using growth hormone instead of possibly using EVIL STEROIDS!

I get so sick of the hypocrisy. GUys in the 70's and 80's were on so much shit they thought they were going to have a heart attack on the platform. Heck talking to one of the old timers he said it was VERY common to use cocaine at meets.

NOw we got drug free lifters lifting more weight than they did. Yeah i bet we do!

A lifter putting up huge weights in an untested meet=BAD.

A lifter beating a drug test even though they are using=GOOD!

alot of the so called Raw lifters was using knee wraps. Doesn't seem fair.

That's factored into the formula.

don't you think some of this stuff makes the forumla you use too much of a guess? i know guys who swear they get fifty to a hundred pounds out of their wraps, and i know people who don't get near that out of the same wraps so which extreme do you use, and if you settle for the middle ground how do you account for the extremes in individual performances?

the drug thing is just silly, i know guys who are clean who lift in untested meets, and we all know there are guys who use who lift in tested meets. i'd be interested to hear your rationale for including this as a factor. i think you do a nice job with this stuff and a very good job with the site in general, but some of the stuff in this seems a little off.

The formula does use averages. No, it wouldn't account for extremes.

Clearly, use should be a factor. The only reasonable method to include it is the way it's currently designed (testing status of the federation or division). Sure it's not bulletproof. But, it's going to be accurate the vast majority of the time.

AD'S, ANAVAR, D-BOL all the orals you can use then come off two weeks prior to the meet in question, and test clean!!!!

So the federation (tested or non tested) is a cop out!
