I'd guess it's very unlikely - most of the big names appeared to pull out last time - you could easily start to think they are scared to let everybody see what they can lift without kit

I appreciate that money is a factor for everyone when it comes to a sport that doesn't provide enough funds for a lifter to make a living from. But it's just as expensive for Andy or any other non US lifter to travel to the States. I'm not actually sure if it's less expensive for you guys to travel over here the way the pound has taken a hammering against the dollar in recent months.

Andy B is a delivery driver, it hardly pays a fortune. So I would guess it's as much of a sacrifice for him to travel.

Mind you it is a shame when any lifter can't be at a top meet due to expenses.

i was sponsored for BMX racing when i was a kid, my sponsor MADE me go to comps. and show my stuff against other people my level. i have a friend that is a sponsored skateboarder, same thing. its like that with all the individual sports, except powerlifting

Jeff Lewis beat Bolton in the WPO. He now totals over 100kg less than Siders. Surely the sensible money would be on Siders under equal conditions.

If you want to talk about who's the strongest, you probably need to throw Yarymbash in there. The guy gives up 30-40 lbs to the lightest 308's and atleast 50-70 to most supers and still manages to out total almost all of them using less gear!

Siders bombed at 2001 wpo finals in florida. Donnie beat Andy at the 2002 show of strength when Gary pulled 931.

Siders bombed 7 years ago when he was lifting 200kg less and couldn't make the team in the USAPL - he was a completely different level of lifter than he is today. You really aren't comparing like with like. Andy Bolton only totalled 1088kg at the WPC Worlds in 2001.

Siders beat Thompson when they lifted unequipped and beats Jeff Lewis by well over 100kg - non of them would be anywhere near him in single ply and I'm sure he would quickly learn to use multiply if he chose to.

I agree. However, at this time of year, many small to mid sized corporations are looking for last second donations to save tax dollars next year, and in many cases, they'd rather sponsor an athlete than write the IRS a bigger check next year. Go to your local chamber of commerce, speak with the head of the chamber, and see if they know anyone that would do this. Maybe even go to their monthly meeting, speak for a few minutes about your accomplishments, awards, the awards of Andy, DT, and others, and play the matchup up for what it is. When the contest is over, bring them autographed pictures of you competing, maybe pics with/of the competition, a formal letter thanking them for their sponsorship, and guess what, you have a sponsor for the next 10 years. Try this, and if it doesn't work the first time, don't give up, because eventually someone will kick in a hundred bucks or something. You get 10 businesses to do this and guess what? You've got a flight to england.

I think this is a fair challenge by Andy. Plenty of time for those lifters to train, raise money/sponsors to get over to England, and Andy himself has been over to the US *many* times to compete against the best in both the WPC and WPO when it was still around.

The only issue is that generally the APF only allows the top 3 in each weight from Nationals to go to WPC Worlds. It would be exciting no doubt though to see some of those guys compete for those top three spots at APF Seniors, and then head to Worlds to compete again Andy and others from other countries.

True; but PL for years has been coming apart at the seams-especially in the last decade or less. I'm not a BMX follower, but I don't think they have the multiple federations, gear issues, judging issues, etc. that PL does. That is probably one reason they get major sponsors.
When you have about 20 "World Championships", with multiple "World Champions" (even those meets where only one or two countries compete)along with the other issues, it's very hard to sell that as legitimate to a businessperson.

Of the multi-ply guys listed, Matt Smith has the cleanest lifts of all of them. His lifts are solid and three white lights virtually every time he competes. If his nerve damage clears up soon and he has a healthy training cycle he goes 1225-1250, 750-785, 820-850, 2795-2885. There would be no question on depth or lockouts. kw

Also, since the location seems to be an issue, what about a "super series" with the top SHWs competing in a few meets both here and over there? Same judges, same rules, same gear, same men, to minimize meet-to-meet variability.

It seems to me that its because Andy talks alot of shit. He still calls himself the All time world record holder, even though donnie beat his total, albeit that was not at the SAME meet. If you're a naysayer of the IPA and Donnies total, its not like the WPO was making people squat ass to ground either.

At the same time, though Andy is cocky, he backs it up. Seemingly fewer men are closer to a 1000 lb deadlift than are to a 2910 lb total or 1255 squat.

Either way, these challenges are fun!

Second everyone knows my reputation when it comes to prize money. I gave Siders and Jeff Peshek over 5,000 CASH at the 06 Senior Nationals. If I could get all of these lifters to agree I would like to formulate a plan to pay them to compete pay there expenses certain ones and get the correct officials for there style of lifting. Everyone has to realize theres not a lot of money in this sport and a nice gesture of paying for travel is really a big deal. I have a lot of big events coming up in 2009 one being my Sports and Fitness EXPO in April and march 21st Im in Austin TX. I dont know when Andy was thinking of doing this or when they all could agree to lay it on the line but Id be gald to try to facilitate something like this.
