Scott Yard Wraps Training for IPA Seniors

Scott Yard, 275, has wrapped up his training for the IPA Senior Nationals which will be held Saturday and Sunday in York, Pennsylvania. Yard will be competing in the meet without equipment, although he has indicated his plans to compete in the equipped division in order to wear knee wraps. Yard finished heavy training with a a 650 pound squat, a 650 pound deadlift for three reps, and a 520 pound one board bench press for two reps and 555 pound two board for three reps. During the training cycle he also paused 545 pounds for a single.

At his Elite FTS log, Yard says: "Im thinking Openers of 650,500,650 as of now. and make 50,25, and 50 pound jumps for seconds. But I may decide to open very low at 600,450,600 as this is my first raw meet and Im not quite sure how my body will react with doing all 3 lifts raw. Meet day decisions workout best sometimes. Ill Just go by feel. Nothing wrong with Penciling everything in until its go time."

Why is he competing raw in the equipped division? just so he can wear knee wraps? What does this prove? Not trying to break balls...just curious.

Maybes hes not trying to prove anything!

Knee wraps are much healthier for your knees over using nothing or knee sleeves. Maybe thats it.......

Sponsored by APT Pro Gear and Monster Energy

The guy is doing a meet that he wants to do the way he wants to do it!! For his self he isn't trying to prove jack shit why don't you people get that.

i dont know why raw divisions dont just allow knee wraps, it is still a level playing field and it is much better for all the lifters health.

Scott's a great lifter. I hope he does well and has a great time.

very cool. maybe he will enter the raw unity meet if he does well.
it takes alot mentally to go from double ply to raw. i give him credit and wish him luck. i think he will love it.

Thanks Guys. And you are right I am just doing this meet for fun as I do for any meet. Im wearing knee wraps b/c I like my knees, and I dont have anything to prove any more, Just gonna lift how I choose and make sure I enjoy doing it.

I have never used knee wraps for squatting in competition.
I used them in training once a while back but didn't like the hassle of putting them on.
I don't see how people think squatting without wraps is bad for your knees when there are some raw lifters squatting 600+ who have no knee issues...
Still, having said that, props to Scott Yard for lifting for himself and not having an agenda or something to prove.

I think it would then becomes a race to build a better knee wrap. Would you agree that a longer wrap would probably give you help than a short wrap? Compared the APT convicts to the original ACE bandages.

Why not just avoid becoming a fractured fed like the ply divisions and eliminate wraps?

its either raw or not, this crap about knee wraps being healthier for the lifter.
matt kroc and others are squatting almost a grand without wraps.
going from equipped to raw means you have something to prove. obviously your raw strength.
go raw then.

This tread is about Scott Yard you assholes! Why dont you wish him luck and have your dumb knee wrap conversation some other time. I mean this tread has turned into a fight over wraps! Who the hell cares about knee wraps were them if you like them if you don't like them don't ware them. Seriously fighting over knee wraps. How stupid.

Can you wear knee wraps in the Raw Unity Meets? And by the way Scott, best of luck to you! Kick ass!

No, you cannot wear knee wraps in the Raw Unity Meets.

Saying someone is squatting a grand without knee wraps with no problems is like saying your grandfather smoked 50 a day and lived to be 80, it proves nothing. As Scott says hes only competing with himself

I have a question regarding the IPA and WPC. Are they an affiliate of WPC? Is WPC THE meet for multi ply lifters? I saw the pro-am is quite popular also. I was just wondering what is the pinnacle meet for multi-ply lifting? WPC? pro-am? IPA? I am new to powerlifting and trying to figure some things out. Thanks

The IPA is not affilated to the WPC. The APF is. The WPC is for multi lifters. The pinnacle for multi is the IPA pro meets.
