More Powerlifting Talk on Big Nation Radio

On Monday November 17th, I got to be the guest again on Big Nation Radio. My interview starts roughly 5 minutes into the broadcast and lasts for about 40 minutes.

Topics discussed were:

Glen Russo's alleged accusation that Ryan Kennelly uses fake plates to set his records (as reported by Muscular Development's No Bull internet radio) and Glen Russo's alleged challenge to Ryan Kennelly (again, reported on No Bull Radio.)

Scot Mendelson and his upcoming FitExpo pro bench show (and how that ties in with the Glen Russo gossip news item.)

How Ronnie Coleman, Johnnie Jackson and Ben White could play a valuable crossover role from bodybuilding to powerlifting.

What happened with BenchAmerica and why it's no longer taking place.

Kings of the Bench and Clash of the Titans coming up at The Ronnie Coleman Classic Expo (April 18th, 2009.)

I doubt the plates are fake. I have a friend who has competed in Kennelly's meets several times. However, the scale they weigh in on is has never been certified and the plates have never been weighed at any of the meets in Kennewick. How do you know the guy even makes a weight class he is given records for with a scale you don't know is accurate? How can you be sure if the weight is not 50 pounds off either way if the plates are not officially weighed? I don't understand how one can be given credit for a certain amount of weight if weights are not ever weighed?

I lifted in the same meet that Ryan hit the 1073. The plates were not fake for my lifts and no plates were ever changed off the platfrom from my lifts to his. Granted, he had many more plates on the bar than I did, but they were ALL real. Anyone making those accusations is a jealous turd.

Granted, fake plates is so stupid.
However as I have been "commenting" for several years now is how in the hell does a world record count with all the gym plates used?

Simple fact is that NONE of them weigh the same, but that is how far down the shitter this sport is. No REAL weigh-ins , no real certified plates etc. ah but what the hell as long as everyone is a winner!

late

This has nothing to do with Ryan, but I have seen some pretty shady weigh-ins over the years.

Ryan seems to always use pound plates, not kilos. I'm not sure why. Last night my buddies and I weighed 10 45-pound plates on a certified digital scale just out of curiosity. They weighed as follows (we rounded the weights down or up depending on the reading)...

46, 39, 42, 47, 45, 44, 43, 42, 43, and 41. Only one of the plates was exactly 45 pounds (actually 45.0), two were over, and seven were under. So, instead of 450 pounds of weight, we had an actual 432 pounds.

We also weighed a few Ivanko kilo plates. They were all spot on.

If we as a sport don't take the weighing of lifters AND weights lifted seriously, then we will have no credibility. The Olympic lifters weigh their plates and bars after record attempts. Why don't we?

I used a certified scale and Ivanko kilo plates when Ryan broke the all-time record with 1074 at my UPA Bench Bash for Cash meet in July 09'. The guy is the real deal.

Hey roger, Maybe they mean the plates aren't 45 like the other post say .So if it is 18 off at 450 then it could be 36-45 off at 1075.

hes benched 1000+ in the ukraine, in APA meets, PRIDE meets, UPA meets, etc. hes not using the same scale all the time, nor the same plates. that argument holds no water

he used calibrated kilo plates in the UPA meet and i beilive they also used them in the ukraine for 1032 or whatever it was.

i was onna he say he smoked 1074 at bill carpenters meet and those were legit kilo plates.....ppl are just jealous

Kennelly is the real deal like it or not. The guy lives this shit. Glen Russo is strong no doubt but hardly in Ryan's league. Right now the only one with a chance to catch Ryan would be Mendy with coaching from me. Other wise He can't be touched.

Ryan is for real. He hit the weight.

When did the Glen Russo rumor start? this is the first i've heard about it...

And there ya go. I talk about that in the radio interview. Kennelly hit a 1,036 in the Ukraine, a 1,074 at Bill Carpenter's UPA meet (where Bill just said he weighed out the plates) and then a 1,075 in Washington. The argument that he's only getting his big lifts locally is an uninformed and incorrect statement.

Sean Katterlie's BORING raw meet at the Olympia had 70 people in the audience.

I understand why you continue to lie to the public. It's been working for you in the short term.

Here's a crowd shot at OUR Olympia Expo event (and the crowd continues off both sides of the camera's coverage.)

Sean,
Let's be real, the reason that Bodybuilding has a greater following is because it has greater commercial appeal. Powerlifting is a cult sport, by the way, a cult sport that I love. It doesn't matter whether it is equipped, unequipped, it is just one boring assed spectator sport. Bodybuilding, on the other hand is about being huge, ripped a set up as an extravanganza. Most young men grow up to want to be Incredible Hulkish and this translates to commerical appeal. Sean and other promoters, it is ok that we are not the big time. I, for one like powerlifting being a dungeon sport. F the commercial appeal.

With our presentation format I think pro powerlifting and benchpressing has the same level of appeal as does the IFSA Super Series (which is now airing on the Versus TV channel) and the World's Strongest Man (which is still airing on ESPN2.)

Many of our competitiors LOOK as big and/or strong as they are; Brian Siders, Al Davis, Brandon Cass, Jeremy Hoornstra, Nick Winters, Joe Mazza, Ray Hickman and so on.

Our competitors wear official competition clothing that reveals how strong they are. Brand new matching tank tops and MMA style gym shorts instead of bench shirts and canvas suits (it's really difficult to look muscular and fit with a bench shirt on, especially on video or in pictures.)

Plus we have hot card girls parading across the stage, a DJ, an MC who doesn't simply repeat "Come on everybody! Let's get behind them!" over and over again and we keep the action moving with the rounds system (like they use in pro strongman) so it's easy to determine who's in 1st place, who's in close 2nd, ect.

Our professional presentation format is a format that will continue to grow in popularity, public gym appeal and commercially.

Stay Strong,
Sean

Powerlifting is not understood by the general public, For example you can have four guys that all weigh 198lbs and all place first in the same comp. Some feds allow wrist wraps some dont etc.To many feds, No main governing body that all these feds have to abide by,The public does,nt know the difference between equipment regulations and plys, Having just got back from the wabdl worlds and being there for five days< it can get very boring unless you or some one you know is lifting that day.I used it to my advantage and asked all the questions I could stupid or not, lol, so for me it's not boring, but believe me the wife was'nt around much. Oh and thank you very much Mr Caminita and Mr. Burdette for answering some shirt questions as well as helping me get mine on.Jesse Israel are you going to compete there are some scheduled meets already here in Mt.Ryan Kennelly is the real deal for sure and I hope you can Get him his this Year Mr. Katterle.

Counting the heads there were exactly 73. Sorry.

Asszilla

DO you just like to hear yourself talk or do you really believe your own bullshit? Better yet are you just plain fucking stupid!

You talk shit about INZER simply because he knew you were bad for his company and more so bad for the sport and knew what a fuck stick you are. But wait it does not stop there! Then everyone you have ever dealt with ends up the same fucking way! So let me guess , it is everyone else and you are the victim?

You and Les Scammer and Prick Peters all rolled up into one makes a total pile of horse shit! Nothing but con artist and scammers. You have all the ideas and no money! You think that everyone else is to give you money? For what? being a dick?

The sooner you get lost the better!

Tim Bruner,

Like I stated earlier, your obsession with me has reached an unhealthy level.

I will not converse with you on the forums.

I will be in Dallas, Texas April 18th and if you'd like to pursue the matter further we can meet up in person there.

I'll be very, very happy to discuss your concerns and dislike of my company's promotions in person with you.

Charlie Farmer,
I have been wrestling with kidney stones for a while now and losing. Had them removed today and have a stent in place. Beleive me, I have never felt pain like this so it has jacked up my traing schedule. I was supposed to do the USAPL Idaho state meet tomorrow but this changed all of that. I will get into contact with you soon and maybe you can help out with the bench.
You can contact me at jesseisrael2004@yahoo.com
