APA Considers New Assistance for Meet Directors

APA President Scott Taylor has put out feelers, at the federation forum, for potential meet directors who would be interested in running meets without any financial risk. Taylor says that he's willing to get beginning meet directors up and running without some of the normal costs they might be faced with.

Taylor: "How many of you would be interested in running competitions by yourselves if there was no financial gamble involved? I realize awards etc are costly. Just curious if some of the costs were cut out if anybody would be interested in running meets themselves in their state. I have a way for beginning meet directors to get started without some of the associated costs of running meets. If interested email me scott@apa-wpa.com"

I looked at running meets last year and found it wasn't the awards, but other expenses. The venue, the insurance, borrowing or buying equipment, and finding helpers and feeding them - plus advertising. What amount is Mr. Taylor talking about? The awards were really the least expensive item on my list.

Some federations also require you have a certain level of membership before you can run meets too. So looking at a spreadsheet, it can be a lot more than you think - and not necessarily recoverable from a first meet.

I think it's an interesting proposal and I wonder if anyone will take APA up on this? Please let us know if you do by posting here and let us know how it went.

thats why most look for a gym to host the meet. that way you are already insured and you already have most, if not all of the equipment handy. then the only expenses are food, helpers and awards

we usually always found spotters and loaders for free as long as we agreed to feed them.
