I would like to see more of this stuff. This information is a great reminder to me and I am an advanced lifter. I never thought about the effect adding or or two more sets could have until I saw this. No wonder I am beat up all the time.

He's really talking about periodization (even though he doesn't use the term), and what you do should always be getting you ready for what's next. It makes sense. You can't treat training sessions as individual events in a bubble. They should always be building towards something.
