Rezazadeh, shw, is a multi-time gold medal winner in the Olympics. He currently holds the world records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total.

Salarian: "Unfortunately we can not compet this year Becuse get visa for Iranian is very Hard. But next year sure. We are Compet with Special team. I think Hosein Rezazadeh Can Compet with us." Salarian lists Rezazadeh's best raw lifts as a 859 pound squat, 484 bench press, and 837 pound deadlift.

That's very cool, and those are monstrous weights he handles.

that would be something to see

n i c e!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

would be great if he competed!

Check out his 617 front squat for double making it just look like a warmup.

I can't wait to hear how he does.

I'd heard that Rezazadeh was done lifting due to a lot of health problems. I hope he's okay, but it seems unlikely he'll be doing this meet...

Raza isn't done lifting, but he was involved in a car accident shortly before the Beijing Games from which he has been recovering. He officially announced his retirement from professional weightlifting, but hey, that doesn't rule out powerlifting! :)

Powerlifting will probably be great change for Reza. WLing, given the nature of the lifts, is hard on bodies. Not to mention that powerlifting has competitive arenas for those that compete in supportive gear and those don't take drug tests. He probably has a whole 'nuther career in him as a powerlifter.

i bet his raw squat will be over 900

That would be really cool, but frankly hard to believe (that Razazadeh would compete in a 100% Raw meet in the US). I'd pay to see it, though.

major step down for someone like him. IPF would make sense.

That would be huge news for raw powerlifting. Razazadeh's so famous in his country his wedding was broadcast on prime time TV. He's also famous as an Olympian (duh) so a lot of international officials and administrators will take notice.

I would LOVE to see him compete in Paul's organization. Paul is a great guy who works his ass off to promote good meets.

...and I want a pony. What's the point of the post, just to suck on the nuts of the raw guys? What's next, the "Andy Bolton 'may' lift raw on 2010" thread. Jeeze Jon, are you that bored?

Sorry buddy, but Reza has about a million times more prestige than Bolton or any powerlifter has.

It's like you guys want PL to stay a joke of a sport. IF someone like Reza competed in a raw PL meet it'd bring more media attention to the sport (at least internationally) than the sport has had since the 70's.

I am a big fan of Rezazadeh's. I am excited to see him powerlift. How amazing for the sport! Instsnt credibility!

who remember the world record c & j of Rezazadeh? The clean was the most amazing strength show of ever. He take it in half squat. Amazing. The strongest man in the world. no doubt.

It'd be great for the sport; this guy is strong and explosive. I saw the world records he did, and they were VERY easy.

I sure don't. Was it on TV at 3am in the morning? The networks have no respect for lifting.

I have to agree with the poster above who wonders just what this post is about. Sure this guy did the olympics. Sure he's famous in Iran. But he's recently had health problems and won't be at raw any time soon, right? What's more it's not a substantiated report from him, right? And what's the odds he can't pass a drug test, a WADA one, after a car accident and the meds he likely needed for pain and other rehab? No offense but odds are he didn't run out and get TUE's while in the ER?

OL, like PL, gets little or no respect from the TV people anyway. No, didn't get to see this guy's c&j record, sorry. Had enough trouble getting stuff from the olympics this year...again. Can't see this guy also presenting himself for OCT from IPF either, sorry. IF he's a national hero and it sounds as though he is, why would he bother to come out of retirement and maybe get beat? He likely has it where he wants it, and should not compete PL for any reason. If you have money and fame in your country, you probably shouldn't mess with this and should completely retire...or do something so completely NOT your sport, say star in movies.

Wish him luck in his future, whatever he chooses. Just don't think he's going to help PL in such a revolutionary manner...and his difficulty in getting a visa? Sorry, but there's good cause you have trouble getting into USA! Visa's into China for the Olympics weren't easy either from anywhere.

This guy is one of the strongest men to walk the planet, ever. An olympic gold medalist possibly crossing into our sport and you don't think it is news? Unbelievable, did you see the other news on here, a bunch of training videos with partials, is that freaking news? Then you take a swipe at his nationality, like he has anything to do with his countrys policy. What would be newsworthy to you, if he sent a couple of videos of him going off a 4 board with a soft handoff and not locking out or perhaps cutting some monstrous squats a mile high? How bad is it when a strength legend can't even be welcomed into our sport? What is it, is it because he is planning on lifting raw that bothers you? Is it that he is from Iran? How anyone could have anything negative to say about this thread is beyond me, it is absolutely amazing. Now, we have stooped to the level of bringing down Olympic champions before their first meet, bravo!

and they say olympic weightlifters are weak

390 kilo back squat, HOW MANY POWERLIFTERS CAN EVEN CHEATINGLY DO THAT !?

Anyone who thinks Olympic lifters are weak is not a bright individual.

THANKS GOD A WISE POST. 100% AGREE WITH YOU.
GOOD NEWS FOR POWERLIFTING ARE ALL NEW RAW COMPETITION, THE BIG NUMBERS OF YOUNG GUYS STARTING COPETING RAW FULL SQUAT, PAUSED BENCH, LOCKOUT DEADLIFT. PEOPLE LIKE WADE HOOPER, RIBIC, BARKHATOV, BELYAYEV, ERIC TALMANT, ALL EUROPE IPF MOVEMENT, AND ANY ONE IS WORKING TO MAKE POWERLIFTING A SPORT AND NOT A HARDCORE ANPHETAMINIC (FAKE) FAIR STRENGTH SHOW.

NOW I HAVE TO LEAVE CAUSE A MY HALF INCH BENCH PRESS (ONCE A WEEK!!!I MUST SUPERCOMPENSATE!!) WORKOUT WITH 1000 LBS IS WAITING FOR ME.

I wish you'd left this part out. Why did you feel it necessary to alienate those brothers who use gear? You put up a beautiful argument against smear tactics, then you used them yourself. Think about it.

Sorry Al, I wasn't trying to say anything negative about gear usage. My issue is with the performance of the lifts that have slowly eroded, not the equipment. Trust me there are just as many garbage raw "training videos" out there as geared. My argument was with someone who thought this wasn't news, and I just think it is a lot more newsworthy than sky high training squats, which we get a lot.

cool
