Let me just say that Trey Jewett, should he continue in the sport, is going to be a force to be reckoned with. This kid benched 700 and deadlifted 600, utterly unbelievable for a 220. I was at the 2007 University of Texas Longhorn Open when he called for 551 for his opening attempt on bench. First we looked in confusion, we thought some horrible math mistake had been made and it was a misload, but when the weight was verified it turned to laughter. There was NO WAY this kid, 198 at that meet, was gonna bench 551 in singly ply, drug tested conditions. We were about to watch a kid drop 551 on himself and crack all his ribs. At least we felt a little better knowing that world Champ Tony Cardella was standing nearby to render any assitance, which we were SURE was going to be necessary. Well, let me just say that our jaws all hit the floor when he proved us wrong, and got the weight up rather easily. I have seen some strong college lifters come and go, but I have NEVER seen anything like this kid before. I'm willing to bet that if he ever switches over to multi-ply, untested feds, that he could make a serious run on Frankl and Luyando's records, in the future.

Trey's 705 was unquestionably one of the best 700+ benches I've every seen. It was strong, steady, and locked out solid. No question on this lift.

John: Congratulations on making the first WABDL Collegiate Nationals a success...

I guess you survived the hurricane OK...

Good luck in Las Vegas next month.

Take care,

Mark

John, I ditto Mark. Congrats on a successful meet.

isnt wabdl multi ply? or up to double at least? was the meet tested?

The meet was tested (urinalysis). WABDL allows a very limited number of older double-play shirts (all inferior to newer, top-of-the-line single-ply, in my opinion). Trey got his 705 in a single-ply Titan.

I want to give a big "hats off" to my UHD lifters. The meet was on September 20. On Friday night, September 12, Hurricane Ike clobbered Houston, with the eye passing directly over downtown. We had originally planned on brining 15 lifters. On Monday the 15th, I had only been able to establish contact with two of them. Power was out across the city, along with water and cell service. By Wednesday, I had managed to reach all of our lifters, some by text messages only, but two of them couldn't make the trip due to severe damage to their homes. We scraped together enough gas to get us out of the city on Thursday, not knowing how far north out of Houston we'd have to go before we'd find gas stations with both fuel and electricity (we had to go quite some ways, it turned out, as Ike blazed a long trail of destruction through east Texas).

I'm proud of and grateful for the courage and confidence my lifters showed, as well as their determination to "finish what they started" and, in spite of Ike, compete in the very first WABDL National Collegiates.

Congratulations Gators, 2008 WABDL National Collegiate Champions!
