SPF Worlds Highlights

(updated 10/8)

In addition to the performances of Carol Ann Myers and Jeff Neuhalfen, a number of other reports are coming in from the action at Saturday's SPF World Championships which were held in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Robyn Blankenship, 181, totalled 1,140 pounds raw. The effort is the top ranked total in the Raw Power Rankings and is the highest women's raw total in any weight class in at least the past two years.

BJ Harper, 148, bench pressed 325 pounds. At only 23 and with only 3 meets under his belt, Harper is already ranked as one of the top five 148 raw lifters at Powerlifting Watch. Harper attempted 330 pounds on his final attempt, which was successfully pressed and locked out, but was disqualified because the bar clipped the bench rack on the way up. Harper won the junior 148 raw bench division and finished second in the men's raw open division to Neil Dreisig.

Christina Hart, 132, deadlifted 400 pounds. The pull ranks her second in the single ply Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings.

Traci Baggett, 198, won the women's raw open class with an 850 pound total. She squatted 350 pounds, benched 160, and deadlifted 340 pounds.

350 pound squat:

340 pound deadlift:

Glenn Baggett, 275, was victorious in the men's raw open class, totalling 1,650 pounds. Baggett squatted 720 pounds, benched 385, and pulled 545 pounds. The squat ranks him second on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings.

720 pound squat:

Claude Bouyer, 165, bench pressed 380 pound raw.

Amber Suter, shw, totalled 1,005 pounds in single ply. Suter squatted 400 pounds, benched 225, and deadlifted 380 pounds. The total is good for tenth on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings.

Jeff Ray, 220, totalled 1,840 pounds.

Anna Reel, 165, benched 300 pounds.

GOOD JOB EVERYBODY!!!

Nice squat Glenn! 385 bench...wtf? lol

Nice lifting Traci!

also good job Amber!

I know JB Hill also went 3 for 3 and 615@275 and a PR. Nice work there as well!

From what I hear it was a great meet...wish I could have been there!

Jon, here is an honest question, or the poster who submitted this can reply.

While im all for news of any kind in the powerlifting world, when there is really specific news... like results from a competition, there seems to be 2 different sets of comments.

1. people that lifted at the meet that come on the internet to say good job, or thanks guys. Im probably stepping out on a limb, but i can guarantee that those same people thanked everyone in person at the meet, but are thanking them on the internet to be seen as a "good guy".

2. any criticism, of any kind, unless the criticism is directed at the IPA, APF is immediately deleted.

when there is a discussion, im all for comments. but when the "news" story is purely facts, like results, is there a need for a comments section when anyone not giving gracious praise is deleted.

Is there a purpose for a results comments page other than to feed the egos of the lifters?

To begin with, your premise is just plain wrong.

1. The IPA and APF are not the only federation's subject to criticism. Not even close.

2. All criticism is not deleted from results news. Anonymous gratuitous negativity is immediately deleted. As is offtopic negativity. Anonymous personal attacks are as well. Those who use their real names are given a much wider berth on all accounts.

You don't want people to be able to congratulate lifters on their achievement or thank others for their help? That seems like an odd request.

so, how many countries were at this "world" meet?

Oh probably as many "countries" as anybody has, "worlds" wise any more. Face it, the "world" level meets are diluted beyond what they were 10-20 years ago. World titles are common, world records, everybody's got 10 now. I've stopped counting mine and only focus on best lifts, vs my lifetime goals. Our sport has become mostly about everybody winning, sort of like everybody now gets the same ribbons in grade school. Nothing like seeing people who haven't done even a local meet before become "world champions" and "world record holders" to make you realize how messed up this sport really is.

What I'd like to see though is 1 standard for so called "raw" events. Maybe just increase the standard to belt, wrist wraps, and knee wraps, of 1 length and 1 type. That way you can compare apples to apples finally. At least beyond the questions of who uses PEDs and who does not. Or at least it's a bit more clear who did what and how well, since the rule sets are so far out of whack now. Just one thing across the feds we can actually compare without everybody saying "well they didn't do it OUR way so they suck".

it was a good meet a little long but it was fun

To answer your question. There were no other countries involved at this meet. Shawn from BMF was talking with teams from two other countries, about competing at this meet, but it didn't pan out. Hopefully next year.
If things work out at the Dec 6 meet I think you guys are going to see plenty of others involved in the very near future!
The SPF/WBPLA is trying to do the same as WABDL did, build from the ground up, and not have to run knock on someone elses door and beg to be let in!!!!
Remember this is not the only Federation that has been built from the ground up! WABDL, APA ???????

Thank you for your concern. Keep an eye on things, because when the change starts it will be very fast.
That is all I can share with you at this time!

Congrats to all that competed this weekend! There are many Great lifters in the SPF/WBPLA, and many on their way!
Stay Tuned!

Well Question guy..I didnt lift at the meet and wasnt there, I just saw the results and wanted to congratulate some people I saw lifted there. That may help answer one of your questions as to why there may be a comments section after a meet result is posted.

Paul Key

We missed you too Paul! Ken's supposed to bring you your Lifter of the Year Award for Biggest Equipped Bench. Congrats! See ya soon!

~Train Heavy~

Yeah, It's kind of silly to have a "World's" for a federation that is specifically marketed to the South-Eastern U.S. (hence SPF). Better just to stop at a nationals, or if you're going to have a worlds, align yourself with an international organization.

You know I tried to be nice and answer your question, knowing better. So why don't you just post your numbers and see if you could have been competitive. I doubt it!!!!!

That is the last answer you'll get out of me. You don't have to like it, you don't have to lift here, but I'd like to see if you could even hold you own!!!!!

That was my lat post to you!

Sad to see that some of the biggest lifters were not even mentioned. James Williams benched 745 squatted 850 which I have personally seen him squat almost 1000 in training. He said this was only his 2nd meet ever and he did not even get mentioned in the highlights. This Fed really needs to suport its up and comers and give them a little recognition as well. James is planning on doing the record breakers. I think you will see some big lifts from him there.

You dont have the balls or the time to come and lift but you can sure get on the internet and run down the lifters that do, To call yourself any kind of champion is well far fetched. Champions show respect to all not just jump around and say look at me.

If you didnt or dont like what the SPF did this year
or if we have stepped on your toes in any way, just wait until next year, you will like it even less.

People come to the SPF because that is where they want to be, nothing you can do about that. The SPF will continue to do as they please for there lifterrs and to have fun, nothing you can do about that. Just keep being a stick in the mud and complaining, your kind doesnt belong with this group of people any way. These people actually want to have fun and know how to do it just fine without you.

No one to my knowledge has posted any high lights.
Just different ones posting different stuff.
Joe Ladnier may be going to do high lights when we get time.

The SPF has not even had time to post results yet
so give me a break, stop crying. Things will get posted as our staff gets to it and not before.

If James has a problem and I know he don't, he knows the right phone numbers to call. Stop trying to stir Crap.

Because a few people post a few things about there friends or there training partners don't make them highlight, they are just that, post of there friends and training partners. You people try to start sh%% over anything. People bust there asses to try and do good and you lame jerks just try to beat it down,
why? Because you are jealous and have no life and to lazy to get off your asses and go to the meets.
You dont support Powerlifting or anything else, you just try to ruin it.

All the highlights have not been posted and when they are they will be signed as so for a staff member of the SPF, results haven't been posted. There were 95 or more lifters at the meet, not just 5 or 6. I am sure everyone would like to mentioned, don't you?
People are just putting ther own stuff on here as everyone else does.

Could care less if my lifts are posted on the net. I do it for the enjoyment of competing not to show off or get my lifts posted on some highlight reel. I support all the lifters and their accomplishments and would like to thank Jesse and the other promoters such as Joe and Ken for putting on a great meet. Would also like to thank Jon Grove, Steve Dwelle and Danny Stone for all their help at the meet. Oh and by the way, if I wrote it I'll sign my name to it. See ya at Record Breakers.

As always, please feel free to email Powerlifting Watch with highlights or meet results. Can you provide more information about James' performance (deadlift, total, weight class, division, placing)?

I'm just happy to not to have my squat depth questioned! HAHA!!! But I'm sure someone will sooner or later.

Congrats to Big James, a good friend and training partner on big lifts, they will only get bettter.

Next year I hope to see more international flavor. Good job to all who competed. It was fun and that's what matters.

It was nice to compete with my wife at the same meet and see her do so well. I am so proud of what she has accomplished in only 8 months.

Well Glenn, since you are the one who brought it up, I guess now its fair game. Its safe to say you squatted. You got under the bar and weight squatted down with it and stood back up. That was a 720 lb. squat. It looked like you squatted the weight. Do you feel like you squatted the weight down and stood back up with it? From my vantage point and looking at it from all angles on my computer screen it looks like you squatted the weight. However this is only my opinion that you squatted the weight and went down and up with it and got at least 2 white lights. I am not an official SPF/WBPLA judge so I cannot give an official ruling but I am an APF National and WABDL World judge. So in my opinon I congratulate you on a good squat. Great job.

BRANT BISHOP, DO YOU HAVE A CONTACT E-MAIL FOR THE WABDL PRESIDENT, SORRY I KNOW THIS DOES NOT GO WITH THE THREAD, I JUST SEEN THAT YOU WAS A WABDL OFFICAL AND THOUGHT I WOULD ASK.

Congrats Glenn and Traci on a great job well done.
It was greaat to wee you lifting big numbers Raw.
Also congrat to every lifter that was at the meet, everyone done great and it was a ball to watch everyone try there very best.

Sorry I been under the under the weather and haven't gotten everything posted but I will.

Thanks everyone and keep training. Jesse

That was funny, Brant, I thought I had opened a can of worms on that one. Just kidding.. good to hear from you and hope to see you soon.

We must have pissed IPF with to much attention,
look at all the stuff they are posting. Someone from the SPF needs to post more, we can play that game.

The WABDL President Gus Rethwisch does not have a computer therefore he does not have an e-mail address. The e-mail address at the website is for the WABDL secretary or you cna call Gus. His number is at www.wabdl.org

I will probably never lift with the SPF as they are not in my part of the U.S. Looks like they have a good thing going, and are having fun. What more is there? No one is going to get rich off of this thing we do. Have fun.

Congrats my friend. Great job... A champion on and off the platform..

JUSTIN RICHARDSON 198 18-19 teenage division squated 650, benched 340 and dl. 600. Awesome lifter to be as young as he is. Keep training hard!!!
