Major Russian Strength Festival October 2-5

The Golden Tiger strength festival will be held in Ekaterinburg, Russia from October 2-5. The event is structured similarly to the Arnold Sports Festival and will feature powerlifting, strongman, bodybuilding, armwrestling, and many other events.

The festival is held on the first Sunday in October in celebration of the Russian "Strength Day" holiday; a holiday dedicated to strength sports. At present, Strength Day is not an official holiday but organizers are pushing to make it one.

The powerlifting competition will be WPC/AWPC sanctioned. Committed lifters include Alexey Neklyudov, Vladimir Kravtsov, and Vladimir Chadkov. In total, 170 competitors are currently committed to the powerlifting competition, with 250 set as the limit.

In addition, five Elite lifters will participate in a squat competition which will be filmed and shown on the "Russian Extreme" television channel. It will also be broadcast on the channel's website. Housing and travel will be paid for the five competitors.

The festival will be covered by Russian media, including magazines, television, and newspapers. Organizers have even invited Arnold Schwarzenegger to the festival in the role of Honorary President. At present, Schwarzenegger has not indicated whether he will attend.

From the invitation (in Russian) (pdf):

Your visit would go a long way toward making the tournament contribute to world's strength sports the way “The Arnold Sports Festival” contributes. We like the concept of your “The Arnold Sports Festival” a lot, and are doing our best to organize a Russian tournament with the same ideals of supporting and promoting strength sports. We understand that your busy schedule is filled with many important responsibilities. However, your visit would be a crucial help in establishing Strength Sports in Russia as one of the premiere sports for the country. We believe the Festival will contribute to further development of strength sports in the world.

We would be honored if you accept the position of the Honorary President of the Festival.

Jesse,

Contact Andrey Loginov for more information (loginov @ fnal.gov). I believe that cash awards are $2,000 although I'm not sure that there will be a bench only contest.

Cash monetary prizes will not be.

Jesse, unfortunately, There will be no bench bash for cash competition at this festival. Prizes will be available for the elite squatters (just double checked with the local organizing committee)
