Video of the Pro-Am Battle at 308

Here's video of the battle in the 308 pound weight class on Sunday at the IPA Power Station Pro-Am. Chuck Fought deadlifted 875 pounds on his final pull to beat Matt Wenning by five pounds, 2,670 to 2,665 pounds. Both men surpassed the previous all-time record. Wenning had the meets biggest squat and bench press; Fought the biggest deadlift.

is the video not working for anyone else?

works here

Damn impressive guys

it works just fine

That was great to watch!

AWESOME!!!!

THAT WAS AMAZING.

Oh man... if Wenning had've taken a bigger third squat he might of won it. What an awesome battle.

Aren't those guys part of Team Xtreme?

That was an amazing show between those guys, the video barely does these two guys justice.

They really put on one hell of a show and I look forward to the next showdown!

I bet their workouts at Lexen get pretty competitive. Very impressive lifting.

Yes, those guys are teammates. At Fought's age, you have to wonder how long he can stay below SHW.

amazing show, fought is the future, imagine in a few years after he has added some weight. Simply amazing!

that was a really impressive bunch of lifts

Great show by both lifters, both very technical and clean in their lifting. That 900 deadlift is right around the corner for Fought.

Can you imagine what that gym must be like with 3 world record holders in the same gym, 2 of which are in the same weight class!!!

training at lexen is like little mini meets all the time it's a blast.Hell at age 48 I put 55 lb PR on my total training with chuck v wenning & fought.

That was some great lifting gentlemen. Nice job to both of you. Awesome stuff.

I must say too the judging at this particular IPA meet looks much better than in the past. All those squats looked right at parallel to me.

Thanks to everyone that helped me out, its been a long road to the top, even though I only held the world record for 5-min (your a fag Chuck Fought) LOL.

Thanks to Danny Dague, and the entire Lexen team, as well as Elite Fitness, and Titan, these great people have always given me anything Ive needed. This was a big meet for our gym and myself.

Vogelphol is a big inspiration to all at the gym, and lets us know what it takes to be a true champion. Both Chuck F and I will continue to push these records up, and take our lifting to new levels. We will rock it until the wheels fall off. We plan to break 2700 at the January Pro Am in Columbus and keep pushing eachother.

The meet was a great venue and worthy of a professional lifting meet, as well as the judging.

Fought is perhaps the (well he is ) The best the IPA WPO APF and even the UPA has to offer and now if we can just get a few of the
self proclaimed bad asses to copy this guys lifting then there might and I mean there might be a small slither of a chance that you nuts can get the sport back on track!

Oh ..I forgot with video you really can't tell if the lifts are good, and let's not forget that maybe the floor was uneven?
hahahahahahahahahhaahahha

have a nice day!

late

Matt Wenning has competed at the top level in both USAPL and the UPA. He is still a young guy, one of the strongest out there to be sure.

nice job matt ~!

chuck fought pulled in a singlet???

Guys got some unbelievable deadlift strenght man freakin 875 didnt even look hard! He just may be the next 900 deadlifter!
For wenning he shoulda went for an 800 deadlift, 765 was way to easy!

What a great battle!...it brought out the best of both of them

Fought had a Metal deadlift suit on. It also appears that he had on some special white gloves :)

He pulled in briefs and a Metal singlet.

Did the judge on the left EVER give a white light on the squats?
jamey

WOW!

Putt Houston.... now with more Bom Chicka Wahwahhhhhh

AWESOME DEADLIFTS AS ALWAYS. SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST. THE MEET TRULY DOES NOT START TILL THE BAR HITS THE FLOOR. "There is no point in being alive if you cannot do the DeadLift." Jon Pall Sigmarsson...(CONVENTIONAL THAT IS). OLD SCHOOL. There are two types of lifters, those that wish they could DeadLift and those that, Do It....

The IPA catches a lot of flack for its style of judging and the lifts it inspires, but these lifts were all spot on. Deep squats, benches and deadlifts to lockout, makes me respect Matt and Chuck's totals that much more. And I agree with what was said before, Chuck Fought IS the future of powerlifting. Lifts like these, and a meet like this bring respect back to the sport of powerlifting. Great job to everyone involved!

I get to train with one of the best 308 lifters in the world, so it is hard for me to be to freaked out by many big lifters. Well, I am freaked out! That was an amazing battle and you guys are both freaks! Congrats to both of you. I would love to see you two in the same meet with my buddy John Bernor. You would push each other to even freakier levels. 2700+ is there now. I think 2800 will fall soon.

I'd guess the left judge was the IPF one, none of the squats looked below parallel to me, most were close though, and I suppose as deep as it gets for multiply.
Great benches and deadlifts, both guys are hell strong

What would be really cool is if the training logs for Wenning, Fought, and Vogelpohl were posted somewhere. I'll bet those training sessions are insane!

I'm gonna bet the left judge was John Bott. He calls them like he sees them.

That was just a sick fucking display of lifting. Great job guys.

Left Judge was Bob Youngs. Both side judges were great. Head judge was an IPF judge. John and Bob should be in the chair at any big meet like this not one complaint about the judging.

Congrats Matt and Chuck, you guys are the sh!t!!!! Matt's an incredibly intelligent lifter and Chuck Fought is a incredibly gifted young lifter. You guyz are going to be kicking ass for a long time. Training with Dan at Lexen is the perfect balance a lifter needs, great competition w/o the drama and head games. Again it was the meet of the year and you guyz came prepared and got your lifts in and set PR's and had fun. Thats what its all about!!!

Just a note no one has touched on between the 2 there was only 1 lift missed...thats amazing!

I believe this topic was on another forum but, if this was an high ranking IPF judge (as was stated a few weeks back) wouldn't he be looking at an indefinite suspension for judging a non IPF sanctioned powerlifting meet?

That was amazing. No doubt they both push each other to another level.

No excuses! Just lift it!

My God! What a classic showdown!

Judge on the left was Bob Youngs, Judge on the right was John Bott, middle judge was IPF judge.

That is unreal right there. That is what multiply should be. Legit heavy ass squats. Locked out and paused benches. Locked out legit conventional deads. That is pure strength. Wow is all I can say.

"The meet don't start 'til the bar hits the floor."

Great job, guys!

great lifting by those two, and great to see a meet with officiating that the ipa can be really proud of.

man that is amazing lifting,,God bless both of you guys..undoubtely you are both going to keep getting stronger and pushin it higher..looking forward to meeting you both one day..God bless

A great meet. Both men are tremendous lifters! I honestly thought Matt was a touch too conservative because on his squat and dead he SMOKED his best lifts on each. In any event, it was great stuff!

Chris

matt is great all around lifter and fought the only thing limiting him is the bench which keeps getting better it came down to the last deadlift and had matt went for more fought would have went for more as well both lifters had gas in the tank could we quite possibly see these two battling donnie thompson for the all time record some day i believe so that was the most intense comp i have ever been too came down to a real mans lift the deadlift a true test of strength fought was down 105 lbs at the end of bench

Congrats to both men for putting up Huge numbers. That was awesome to be there!

Matt competed at Men's Nationals in 2004 and came in fifth.

Congrats to both Matt and Chuck, these guys freaking killed it and raised the bar once again!

The head judge was an IPF referee. He hasn't had a referee card for quite some time.

Right at parallell is not the rule/

that was the best 6 and half min movie that i ever seen, lolololol that was some good lifting buy both of those guy clean and soild lifts u can tell that they both trained hard for that meet. but it all came down to playing the cards right, and chuck just had a better hand and handed out a hellious beat down to matt on the deadlift. I can gurantee u that matt will defitley will be training that dead a litte harder on the next time they meet. great lifting matt and chuck i really enjoyed watching that.

Nice job to you guys... Way to raise the bar to another level in the weight class.. Keep up the good work..

God Bless
