Interview With Bench Press World Record Holder Jay Fry

Critical Bench interviews bench press world record holder Jay Fry. Fry made the cover of Powerlifting USA, shattering his own world record bench press by pushing 725 pounds at 181. Fry on whether he believes anybody can get strong and his number one pointer for a bigger bench, "I believe anyone can be strong if they train their nervous system and if they put their years into this sport. My number 1 tip is to train your nervous system more than your muscles."

I'm not an elite bencher but I do know that my bench has significantly increased over the years (I'm now 38) from simply doing overload type exercises (board presses, rack presses, reverse bands, etc.). This all trains your nervous system, tendon strength, and most importantly your mind. Until you get over the fear of seeing "4, 5, 6, plates" on the bar you'll never get stronger on the bench. I agree with Jeremy 100%

ooooopppps....JAY (not Jeremy). Sorry Jay.

Great bp tips!

Definitely, I'm going to incorporate more heavy overload techniques like reverse band bench press at least once a month.
