This video should be kept on everyone's computer & used as a reference for squat depth. It should be watched b4 heavy days for effin intensity. If u think yer big & strong, compare his lower half to yer puny sticks & get back to the gym & squat. And to top it off, the m.f. got boxes too!

one of the greatest ever, how old was he when he retired??

Stud.

Great video! Man, he had a build on him!

There is no multi-ply mono-lift gear whore walking the face of this earth today who can walk out 1000 and squat it for a double. No one. Now before any of you multi-ply mono-lift gear whores get your predator/canvas combo all tied up in a knot, I'm a multi-ply mono-lift gear whore.

Legs the size of trees.

Hey folks!

Thanks a lot, it was good to hear you all liked it.
I think he was 29 when he retired.

The video featured here, is a short version. You can find a 5 minute longer version on Video.google.com

Hope you enjoy it!

Huge power!!! I saw him on of course Ed Coan at Pori Worlds -95 and he was/is huge and what a great power athlete.
I feel sorry for he´s knees, but he stayed injury free... i think.pevsotun

Saw him lift in Laughlin, I think 04? He is still a beast.

Why'd he stop competing? He did a raw meet within the last few years and put up some huge numbers. It seems like he could have racked up a few to several more world titles.

Awesome! Just Awesome. I love that old shit.

Something this video shows is what people today call "ass to the grass" and "ass to calves" is really just a case of going deep enough to hit depth and NOTHING more. But because squat standards are so lax these days.....PATHETIC is a better word....that when a squat is merely done to the depth required by the rules, everyone marvels at how it is "ass to the grass" or "ass to calves". None of the squats in this video demonstrated anything deeper in depth than what was required to get whites. Just the way a squat is supposed to be performed and nothing more.

Since the thread wasn't about his squat technique, I must say,"Huh?!?"

WOW!! Amazing. What a lifter.

Can't wait for someone to say one of those squats were high. Picture perfect.

karwoski left powerlifting because he was discusted with the state of the sport.this man was all about intensity.you volume guys would laugh at his workout routine. no deloading or shieko just a basic periodization schedule with lots of intensity.

what's with that squat depth? all the recent records I see are way higher than that, i bet he could have blown them all the way with the current depth rules!

Carl, I’m aware the thread is not about squat technique. But seeing as there has been so much debate lately on depth, required depth, proper depth, etc. I thought this video was a good example for people to not just look at the lifts as a whole but to also recognize what the execution of solid squat and the required depth needed, as rules state, looks like. Apparently there are many lifters that DO NOT know what one looks like and these squats in the video are examples of what a squat SHOULD look like. Hence why I mentioned it.

good video, one thing about his squats, he left little doubt whether they were good or not.

1,000 lb. squats with little to no gear. Are those ace bandages he has for knee wraps?Smiling No wonder why the lifters of today look ridiculous to the old powerlifters. "Incredible"

I believe the main reason he hung up the gear was to go and run his family business. He had already won multiple world titles.

Actually Kirk is like 6 inches below parallel. If you that is the rules that is cool but don't write in the rule books that lifters should just break parallel and expect the top of the quad of the lifter to be below the knee cap.

Watch the old videos from the 70's and 80's and tell them they did the lifts wrong as well. You can't just pick and choose what you want to say is a good lift. Guys in 80's and before good lifts but guys today doing same depth today is bad.

The only reason they make you go so damn low is beause the IPF was taken over by former weight lifters. That had to go that low to get the rebound out of their power clean so they don't know any other way.

So do us all a favor. Instead of spending all your time on here trolling go hit the weights. Thats where I'm heading right now and I'm not going to be able to argue with you because I'll be lifting getting ready for my next meet.

BTW Captain Kirk is the man!

Anonymous, I never mentioned parallel in my post and was only mentioning that the squats in the video demonstrate what a proper squat should look like. I didn't get into the "the top of the quad of the lifter to be below the knee cap" and have no idea where that came from in your post. Since you obviously are someone that squats high, indicated by your defensive attitude in your post, you ought to watch the video more closely and try to emulate your hero ("BTW Captain Kirk is the man!"). As far as trolling goes I was not trolling. I was merely commenting on how the squats in the video are done the way they are meant to be done. So on your way to "lift", getting ready for your next meet, stop at your neighborhood college campus and take a class on reading comprehension. Spend more time in that class and "lifting" and less time on your mother's computer talking trash to someone that was only making a positive comment on a good squat.

HE was wearing the best available at the time titan dual quad with the harness system and knee wraps.titan claims that at that meet something like 10 world records where set in that suit. the idea that his 1000lb squat was done in almost no gear is crazy.i have to say this though it was a pretty incredible squat.

It was an awesome squat! I was there in 95 in Baton Rouge, LA when Kirk hit this 1003. Crowd was roaring like mad. The video caught all the energy and intensity and Kirk lit the place up. It was an excellent meet put on by Paul Fletcher. It was nice to be on the same platform with Kirk even though he kicked my ass by 400 lbs.

J.D.S instead of using this video to troll people who lift differently than you maybe you should use your time doing something more productive.....
