Okay, I'm gonna open up something that not even my lifting partners agree with me on.

IMO, floor presses should be done with the legs straight out and toes up. This eliminates all lower body assistance and truly makes it an upper body assistance exercise.

When Robert drove the legs and lifted his butt, what was the point of being on the floor? Please help me understand.

Yeah good point, I think maybe it's because you want to place more stress on the triceps and not have the "stretch" you get going down when doing bench presses and squats. It's like doing deadlifts, you know starting at the bottom.

your triceps still stopped the weight. If I floor press 500 with my butt a little in the air and then floor press 520 the next time, still butt a little in the air, didn't I get stronger? I do all my floor pressing with my feet on the floor.

JimRay, What works for you does not work for everyone else. i am a big supporter of "If it works for you, dont change it". Every time I have tried someone elses technique..i got weaker. If you train toes up when you floor press..train toes up, If he trains that way, obviously it works for him. Hell I even train that way and love it. I am more stable that way. I have good balance. Hell you should try it.

I agree gunny, I tell people all the time what works for me might not work for you and vice versa. I'm always willing to try something new and sometimes it works sometimes it don't.

i know louie always said the floor press was meant to be flat backed with no leg drive as jim ray suggests.

i also know that i have tried it both ways and it felt different each way. i actually prefer feet on the ground, but that may be because i can handle more weight that way.

what carries over to a bigger bench is beyond me, but ive always been a firm believer in the fact that the more weight you handle the stronger you will get. i guess it really depends on if youre doing it as one of your "core" movements or as accesory work.

just my thoughts on the situation. regardless of all that, this is some freaky strong training footage. very impressive

yeah I agree. if you are going to use leg drive, might as well just do a 2 or 3 board on a normal bench IMO.

He did not pause at the bottom and there was no judges there for the lift so all of this does not count. He also did not weigh in before the lift and is this drug free, single ply, in a shirt, at his basement, with wrist wraps, did he wear a belt????? LOL. GOOD WORK....
