Ryan Celli breaks USPF National BP Record

Ryan Celli, 198, bench pressed 622 pounds on Sunday at the USPF Senior Nationals to surpass his own USPF National record of 584 pounds. The effort was also a WPF World Record. Celli totalled 2,000 pounds, adding a 699 pound squat and a 677 pound deadlift. Here's video of the record setting bench press:

Great lifter raw or with gear..keep it up more records will fall.

I'm cool with that. Looked like he had more.

The judging may have been inconsistent then, as I've read posts about super-strict judging. Even in this one attempt, the "start" was drawn out, the pause was... significant, but there was a clear (to me) hitch of the right hand. IMO, great effort, but a red light.

Way to go man! Major congrats!

Hey JimRay just to let you know this is the bench press not the deadlift.(he hitched it)lol.

Another solid lift. I would like to see Ryan Celli -vs- Dennis Cieri compete at the August 31 usapl bp nationals in nc.

That was a really good bench, very clean. Maybe a slight pause with his right hand but not a "hitch", wrong event. I am just curious why a guy who can bench 622 can only squat 699 and deadlift 677. You would would think that with that type of upper body strength that he would squat close to 800/850 and deadlift roughly the same. Thoughts as to why he doesn't have larger lifts?

Great lifting, congratulations on your total.

Excuse me for using a word y'all don't like. IMO, his right hand dipped ever so slightly ("bar oscillation" - how bout THAT?). It's very common where the shirt starts to quit helping and the tris fire. (The trick is, to fire the tris from the chest, not at that, 'transition' point. It's much easier to type than to do.)

I too, would love to see Ryan enter the USAPL, get a qualifying lift in, and make it to Charlotte on Labor Day weekend.

no dip just a pause.

I know Ryan is a RAW and single-ply superstar, but has he ever done any multi-ply meets? Legit question, does anybody know? Thanks for your time,

Congrats Ryan!

why? He does the same or more while he squats and deadlifts. One is a bencher and one is a powerlifter.

Good job Ryan, was on the same flight as you so i got to see it live...you manhandled the first 2,next meet 600 plus for sure!vojjopeb

Well, one competes in the USAPL/IPF. Maybe Ryan is looking to be recognized as the best in the world. If he sticks to PLing, he could try to make the World team and go against Krymov of the Ukraine.

Has the usfp gone back to using the press command. I could not make out if the head ref said press or if was someone else.

Thanks guys. I have to thank Chris Mason from At Large Nutrition for their awesome supplements, Ken Anderson for the equipment, and Alan from APT Pro Wraps. I actually left my convict wraps at home! I was sick over it.

I may have gotten one red on that lift, i'm not sure. Not many lifts had 3 whites.

I agree my squat should be more, I got red lighted on my 2nd attempt squat, and had to retake it on the third, a very easy 699. I'm not sure where I would have been, I expected to be 730-750.

My deadlift was right on for this meet, I think I would have had my 710 if not for the small flight, everyone bombed out and I think we were left with maybe 6 people by the time we pulled.

I haven't done too much multiply. I did a 625 bench in 2005?

The world records had to be done with a press command, So world record benches had START, PRESS, RACK...

Strong work! The bar did dip a little, not much, not being a you know what like most. Does not matter you got the lights and the weight. Congrats on a great day!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but USAPL rules state that you can't compete in a national or world level comp via the USAPL/IPF if you've lifted in a non-tested fed any time within a year from the date of the USAPL competition. Again I could be wrong, hell, I probably am, that was just my understanding of the rules.

Great Job Brother!!! Strong lift!!!

WPF world record? but did they use multi-ply equipment? is he planning to compete in the worlds in Austria?

The rule is, one cannot compete in the IPF if you have competed in another fed's international championship within the past 12 months. So, if RC went to the WPF meet, as part of the USPF US team, then he would be ineligible for the IPF.

Teale Adelmann just did out of NASA. I wish Joe Thompson (from NASA) would try it. Ryan would be a terrific entry from the USPF, on the bench or PL side.

Congrats Ryan!!! Awesome work

Great Job Ryan! It seems like every time you get on the platform another record falls. Keep up the great work.

congrats ryan, ive been following your lifting for a few years and i know youve got more in you yet.

Congrats Ryan on strong lifts, way yo set the bar higher, you give me lots of motivation!

Congrats Ryan. Hell of job!! Will be seeing you soon. Knee is healed, will be time to start some serious training.
