More Impressive Squat

No doubt about it. Hooper's 815 at 181 under USAPL conditions...walking it out, single ply gear and squatting it DEEP!!

www.titan500.blogspot.com

Siders' squat was great, but for me Hoopper's just edges it.

BYRD. 1050@198, 1100@220, and 1108@228.

and not only did he squat 1108@228 but he squatted 1100@220 one week earlier.

hooper 2nd
siders 3rd

Can't go with Siders because the Russian squatted over a grand a few weeks ago. I have to go with Hooper, that squat is just 22 or so pounds off of Bridges IPF record. Byrd's is impressive, but I saw his 700 raw squat at NERB which put it in better perspective.

You mean Sider's warmup....i mean third attempt. Maybe its just me but the fact that 992 looked like it should have been done before he got on the platform, or maybe a 1st attempt, makes it impressive to me.

Byrd - close 2nd - to handle that kind of weight week after week after week is nothing short of amazing either.

Hooper's squat was 22lb less than the record in the 181 class and Siders' squat was 22lb less than Malanichev's squat at SHW.....

By Wilks formula, Hooper's squat gets 250.5, Siders gets 248.5 - not much in it.

Malanichev squat is not a record, cos the russians are banned

Hooooooooooooooop, gets it. Plus, he actually squatted to depth. Siders lifts as though he's afraid to total a huge one because he might get nabbed. I dunno.

It's simple:

1st Hooper
2nd Siders
3rd The Byrd

Hooper and Siders are both single ply performing "real squats" i.e. walking it out and squatting to proper depth.

Byrd's 700 raw squat just shows how much the extra equipment adds.

Why are we talking abour Byrds 2 year old squat with only a belt and walked out? Byrd will prove all the naysayers wrong very soon!

Hoop is awesome, Siders, not so much..

I think they're all great! And Byrd has done well over 700 raw in the gym.

Really? You want to compare raw numbers? How bout Byrd's 705 squat at 210 vs Siders 785 squat at 330 at the same meet?

And byrd has just posted a video of him hitting a triple with 675 which was 2nd attempt from the NERB 2 years ago, no doubt he can hit well over 705 under the same conditions now.

a 1100 squat at 220 . well it seems unreal. coan did 964 at 215 bwt in 1987 and it was unreal

Great point Winston... too bad its not among the answer choices, so you dont get credit.

I have not, and will not claim the numbers i am doing now are better than Coan's or Hatfields or anyone else who did not have the oppertunity to lift in the modern gear during their hey-day. Anyone with any common sense knows there is a huge difference.

As for these lifts, Hoop is an amazing squatter. Of these 3 lift choices, my vote goes to him.

Siders missed an IPF record squat the weekend before, followed by tripling 775 in the gym during the week, and then competed again...

and Coan had a clip of him doing 685, to depth, for five, comfortably.

So Coan wins all...

He has set several WRs and has passed every test. Stop talking crap.

Ed's 964 was done under IPF conditions and single-ply

No excuses! Just lift it!

All great! I'll give Sam's the edge since I saw it live and was shocked with how easily he blew it up. It looked like it might as well have been 315!

Actually, Eds 964 was done at the 1987 APF Worlds

Yes.. we all still agree Ed is the man...

If you take off the crap and lift raw, pound for pound, coef. wise and nice to see good depth and being drug free, Wade Hooper wins easy. 815 in single ply, weighing at 170 something is impressive. I think best squatter of all time is Ed Coan,(regardless not being drug free), Training for the USPF Senior Nationals years ago, weighing around 226 for the 220 pound weight class he squatted 800 x 2 just wearing a belt. If a person can squat 800 pounds raw in the 220 class raw officially that would be one of the greatest squats of all time.

Powerlifting is a funny sport. In track there is no one who will say Ben Johnson (a repeat drug user to help his performance) will be called a great.

If Ali was busted for steroids he would not be called the greatest.

But in Powerlifting there seems to be a different standard.

Oh well...that is off topic, but it got brought up...if I had to pick I'd say who lifted with the less amount of gear.

Anonymous up ther said that "Really? You want to compare raw numbers? How bout Byrd's 705 squat at 210 vs Siders 785 squat at 330 at the same meet?" Well, siders raw squat might not be that impressive but you tie that in with the 675 touch and go bench and a possible 840 raw deadlift. We are talking a possible 2300 raw total for siders. Byrd is a SQUAT SPECIALIST.
