Mike Broussard totalled 1396 and set a teenage american bench record with 363.

Wow big numbers

...look how tight the races were so far. (5lbs, 11lbs, 22lbs)

What a great meet!

Putt Houston.... now with more Bom Chicka Wahwahhhhhh

Can't believe Gainer bombed

A REAL CLASSY MEET. I BET YOU WILL NOT SEE ANY OF THOSE HALF SQUATS POSTED HERE PRETENDING TO BE GOOD SQUATS.

It's a shame that Eric and Ervin bombed as I was really looking forward to seeing them do some big stuff. You guy will get it next time, I'm sure!

doesn't look like we will be getting any points from the 123 class for the usa team at ipf worlds.

i just checked the link jon, and it looks like jimmy lawrence beat naquin out at 123, with an 1177 total. Am i wrong?

The results above are only for Men's Nationals, not Teen/Junior Nationals.

Holy f**king cow, Batman! This guy is bringing back Raw Powerlifting! Geaux Louisiana State University Tigers!

Damn, Mr. Hooper hit 815.
That's big. And not to mention another one for the record books. He'd own the IPF record again.

Hoop's gone to 181??

That's a ridiculous squat.

Hooper has gone up to 181. The WR squat in that class is something like 830...

good god hoop smashed ricks! unreal.

Is the 2009 Nationals in Philly or am I wrong?

UNBELIEVABLE LIFTING!!!

181 Report

What a battle! It definately lived up to the hype! Squats - both men got all three attempts (nine whites). Ricks ended at 744 (Masters WR), Hoop ended with 815! Bench Press - Ricks opened with 440 (good). Hoop opened with 518 (good). Ricks missed his second at 468, Hooper made 540. Ricks repeated 468 on his third (good). Hooper got 556 on third. Hooper leads at sub-total, 1372 to 1212. Ricks made up ground with a 661 opening DL to Hoop’s 567 opener. Hooper missed his second at 589 (first missed attempt of the day) and Ricks missed his second at 705. Ricks remained 66 lb. behind going into the final attempts. Hoop missed his third again (grip) and Ricks increased his third attempt to 733 to pull for the win but could not finish. Both men finish with their openers with Hoop ending at 1940 and Ricks at 1873. Hooper is National Champ at 181.

Final Report - 198

Walker, Williams and Hines got their DL openers. Jones missed with 639 but took 650 for his second and got it. After opening light, Walker went to 677 on his second and got it. Williams was successful with 694. Going into thirds… Walker and Williams are tied (Williams has bw advantage). Jones behind 16.5 lb. Jones pulled 683 which put him into first. Walker next at 700. Good. Walker in first place. Williams last pull for the tie and national championship with 716. It’s good! Williams wins! Williams wins! Williams wins! What a great battle!

Final report – 220

Going into DL, Hartman trails Tylutki by 22 lb (10kg). Tylutki's successful opener at 705 put enough distance ahead of Hartman’s easy opener of 666 appears to solidify the win. Hartman passed on his second. Tylutki pulled 733 on his second. Tylutki asks for 738 for his third and final. Missed it. Tylutki out in front by 88 lb. Hartman calls for 755 to get the win. GOOD!!!! Jeremy Hartman is the 220 national champion by virtue of bodyweight. Incredible lifting!!

What an awesome day with Hooper/Ricks at 181, Williams/Walker/Jones at 198 and Hartman/Tyluki at 220! Solid lifting all day long.

Bring on tomorrow!! We still have 242 (Douglas/Mastrean), 275 (Cardella/Tuchsherer) and SHW (Siders/field) plus I am sure there will be some surprises. I can't wait!!

The lifter that impresses me is David Ricks. He must have some age on him by now and still puts up good numbers. Am wondering if any of these lifters will do the USAPL Raw Nationals meet in July? I was thinking of it until I tore a hip flexor in a rodeo Memorial Day weekend. Otherwise was looking at 500-375-725@181. Next year...........

Is Hooper gonna stay at 181 and if so, judging by his 1940, how long will it take him to bus' a cap in the 2000lbs total ?

Great job so far, all !

Peace

Hooper could be the best squatter in the game right now, and one of the best ever. I know this comment will draw the criticism of many but when you look at his string of impressive performances and domination, and the fact that he squatted a huge 815 at 176 pounds body weight, it begs the question.

Dave Ricks and Wade Hooper are both great guys and great lifters. Wade told me years ago when he moved up to 165 pound class, he can squat 595 %100 percent raw, this is when he did 749, I think, If he can squat 815 equip. now at 181, he probably can squat over 650 raw at 181, which is extremely, impressive, especially there are guys in the heavy weight class non-tested, unlimited divisions, can't squat 800 raw and they are squatting 1100 or more euip. Nothing against Sam Byrd, great lifter, just comparing, he did seven at 202 raw and did 1050 at 198 non tested equip., and Wade Hooper can probably squat over 650 raw, drug tested, off of racks and strict conditions at 181 and is one of the best in the world in his weight class. Guys like Wade should get more credit in the sport of powerlifting. I know he is popular to some degree, but he is not as popular a lot of lifters in powerlifting. If 650 raw or more isn't impressive at 181, look at Mike Mastrean he did 600 raw at 198 at an ADAU meet, years ago, look how much he squats now at 242. Good job to all the USAPL lifters.

Cardella missed 865 and Mike T hit 903 is the report I just got

Hartman totaled over 2,000 and weighed in at only 217lbs...this young kid should do very well in years to come...

Congrats to Dustin Witte! 6th @ 181 ain't bad for a kid (19) whose not even old enough to have a beer afterward! Way to rep Texas A&M buddy, I'm proud of you.

I'd say Ricks numbers are a little better than good.
1600 pounds raw at 181? So then your single ply total must be close to 1900. I don't think so.

I wish I was there to watch the 198 battle. Congratulations to Danny Williams on his first Mens National Championship.

I said it weeks ago.... If Danny has his game tight he's the favorite to win. I also said look out for my dog Justin "I aint no Texas Ranger" Walker. My boy put the HEAT on! Justin you are my hero! Greg Jones didn't lay down either. What a dog fight with third attempt deadlifts deciding placing. I'm so mad I missed it all.

Wade totalling 1940!!!! 815 squat! Go HOOP!!!!!

198 & 220 decided on bdywt.

The return of Siders.

The lightweights decided by 5, 10, 20 and 40 lbs!

Congrats to all... I can't wait for the write-ups!

...somebody please tell me a Mike Khuns story, I know he was out of control after the meet. lol

Putt Houston.... now with more Bom Chicka Wahwahhhhhh

Nice squat Mike, can't wait to the video.

Does Sider's squat go down as the highest in USAPL history?

True that....

what happened with Siders on the Bench? Its considerably lower than it usually is.

Big congrats to Mike Tuchscherer!

With that kind of weight it really isn't considerablly lower. 40 or 50 lbs is just one attempt scratched. That's nothing....

Or he is saving up for a big total at worlds. The meet was over after the squats, why not be conservative?

I was surprised Mastrean's squat was so low... not that I could have beaten it, but he has a 900+ under his belt.

Some great close battles.

Tuchsherer is a freaking animal. I am glad that Cardella got an IPF gold in for all the years he has put in the sport. Tough to beat someone who is so good at all three lifts. Money says Mike T shatters 2400 at worlds and siders puts the hammer to 2650... Would be cool to see Hooper and Mastrean go for WR's in the squats as well.

Pete

Wade Hooper is one of my favourite lifters. If he isn't getting much attention people are way off. He is concistently improving and works as hard as anybody.
Go HOOP

If wade could hold onto the bar, his deadlift would far exceed its current level and enable him to compete fully at the maximal level, making him an all around lifter. But his hands do not allow that, which is why I said he needs some performance enhancing surgery on his hands to make them better, we have the technology, 6million dollar Hooper FTW

Billy entered the open division and Jimmy did not. All 3 lifters in the 18-19 division broke the american record total.

Curt

The teenage and junior numbers were huge this year. I have been to plenty of teen/jr nationals and they were never this competitive in my opinion. Some of these really stick out.

123: Jimmy Lawerence goes 1179 and breaks the AM record by 42.5 kilos. He also was very close with a sub-jr WR deadlift of 489.

148: Stephen Rios goes 9 for 9 and 1383 to win on bodyweight.

198: Landre Lee goes 661, 418, 606 for 1686 and breaks the AM record total by 99 lbs. This kid is the real deal. His squat was in a loose hardcore suit and he used an old HD blast for his bench. He can go 1800 with some gear and technique adjustments.

275: Ty Cloe stands up with a sub-jr WR squat of 729 and received red lights. (I thought it was good)

220: Chris Skinner weighs in at 199 and totals 1687. Skinner made huge jumps and missed all of his 3rd attempts. This kid can total over 1800 next week at 198 if he wants to.

If teen/junior nationals continues to bring in this kind of talent, our sub-jr and junior teams will have enough to beat the Russians. This is not an overnight process. But in 5 years from now, the rest of the world needs to be ready for our guys who will be exiting the junior ranks and entering the opens.

This is absolutely right on, Wade can make 600, even 700 fly off the floor so fast you can see a dust trail, he just has trouble holding on to it, again, with Wade being a smaller man, at 5'3", that is simply a problem of small hands. Speaking of hands, anyone ever seen Brian Siders' hands? He could palm the earth with those things.

Come on guys...what about P. Ribic she is like 5'2-5'3 and holds on to 550.

G. Rodding

Ya, cos we all know height is the major determinant of hand size.

Wade has has this issues for years.

QB David Kraig held (holds?) the NFL record for most fumbles, and he has tiny hands. Y'know what they say about men with tiny hands... they wear tiny gloves, LOL!

I am a big fan of Hooper and Ricks. So, this was the first USAPL meet that I have been glued to the whole time waiting for results and videos. Two greats of the sport.

If it werent for Hoop, Ricks, Reape, Ribic or Bonica I wouldnt even pay attention to the USAPL.

Knute Douglas and Ian Bell alos turned in good performances. Coach lewis is going to have a great team heading to Worlds.

Shawn Smith out of N.J won all the lifts at the 242 pound class teen II. Shawn is going into his senior year at Red Bank Catholic high school this football season should be a great one for him. This was only his 3rd competition winning all three lifts 544,413,501 congradulations National Champ.

Mike Tuchscherer is the future of the 275'ers. Tony is great as well but I feel Tuchscherer is way way underrated.
