Andrey Malanichev Wins Cup Of Titans

Russian Andrey Malanichev, shw, captured first place at Sunday's prestigious Cup of Titans (results - pdf) held in St. Petersburg, Russia. Malanichev totalled 2,568 pounds, which included a 1,014 pound squat, 650 bench press, and 903 pound deadlift. With those numbers, he betters the superheavyweight IPF World Record squat of 1,008 pounds held by American Shane Hamm and deadlift of 899 pounds held by Hungary's Tibor Mészáros.

Malanichev is coming off of a two year suspension imposed by the IPF for doping violations. The suspension ended in March but the entire Russian team is currently under suspension so his records will not count. Malanichev earned 180,000 rubles for the effort.

Here's Malanichev's second squat of 969 pounds:

In addition to Malanichev's potential records, Andrey Belyaev, competing at 220, would have broken the IPF World Record total of Ukrainian Ivan Freydun. Also, Alexei Malunin's bench press would have taken the World Record at 242.

insane numbers. these IPF suspensions are doing wonders for the russians

I dont get it. You fail the test get suspended but during your suspension you are not subject to drug-tests but they guys who did not fail are.

Great lifts though.

Siders better bring his A game... wowzers

Congratulations Andrey Malanichev on your 1,014 pound squat, 650 bench press, and 903 deadlift!

EXACTLY!

Meanwhile Siders was suspended. And people think that the IPF is the ticket to the Olympics?

Because of the last 3 years of snafus concerning drug testing, suspension, and rule changes, the IPF has caused a scar that will hurt them well beyond the short term progress they think they are making.

I know that the rule changes are mostly USAPL, but as the parental governing body, the IPF is ultimately responsible as the USA branch sends lifters its way.

IPF has a great setup going that its a strict rules, harsh judging, single ply, drug tested federation.

If the IPF does not realize that by suspending the lifters they have opened a Pandora's box of doping, then it is a shame. When you suspend a team for doping, and their numbers get to world record levels while on suspension, then there are two angles to take this. One is that the judging has gotten lax to inflate numbers, and the other is that the suspension has created a safety net where the lifters are using knowing that they cant be suspended while they are already suspended.

I just want to add that those lifts are great, nothing should be taken away from the lifters if they are following the rules.

Great lifting guys!

real squats..with massive weight
impressive stuff

is malinichev's total bigger than siders total ?
that 1014 squat is crazy

2600 for siders if im not mistaken...

i think siders just missed 2600 at the american open

He hit 2602, and just missed 2630. It was impressive as hell. Worth the plane ticket for his lifts alone.

STRONG!!!

i'd say he probably is a bigger squatter than siders, but siders would outbench him by about 120lbs. and that would make up the difference for squat and deadlift.

amazing how close together his hands were on that squat.
And at only 130kg he's barely a superheavy.
Looked to be just on parallel. Obviously no need for the euro's to go 3" below.

Look for him to go about 1080-1100 kg at worlds if he's nominated. Thats the standard dropoff for the russians. I can see him going 125 if he's in canada.

Amazing results!

More then any of the other top 10 Malanichev was within striking distance of the 125 class, I believe he only weighed 130? Look at guys like Belayev, he weighed in at 100kg exactly which tells me he has to cut some just to make 100...thats at least 10kg over his normal weight class.

I would argue that Siders is capable of a squat that big, have you seen the speed of his 1003? He missed it only on a slight technicality.

Wow, that's a lot of kilos being put up there, amazing lifting.
Siders lifts in a few weeks so we'll see where his squat is at then. That 1003 he missed for taking a step was crazy fast.

Wow, I don't know what was more impressive, that mile walk he had to do to get to the platform or the actual squat itself! lol

was at the american open. siders def left some weight on the platform, his 1003 was turned down because he shifted his foot at the top but the weight was not difficult. his 865 deadlift was too easy, i would venture to say 900 is there. and his bench is pretty good too...

here is some photos and short video report about Cup of Titans

Lol, I thought the same thing! They had to get wrapped up and then walk a block to get to the platform.

These guys won't quite hit these numbers if they go to worlds. Belaev will probably go back down to 198 and they will all have to clean up some before heading to Canada. I agree that with the suspension has brought even more rampant drug use. They are now untouchable.

Yeah really. Siders has a big challange next worlds meet he enters. Crazy ass numbers.

If a lifter is suspended he will still be tested if he wishes to return to the sport.
One of the finnish lifters got suspended and was tested 6 times in a year during his suspension.
They came to his house in the morning once to test him.
Unless he was using stuff that they can't test for he didn't get much of a chance to cheat.

THe russians are out, because of the positives and because of their failure to set up proper testing protocols.

Good lift!

The best would be if Russia was suspended for a minimum of 100 yrs. The use of AAS in powerlifting is enormous in Russia and it doesn't look like a change is on the way. Suspending al of Russia doesn't stress them to take care of the problem...
