DicksSportingGoods.com

Bob Gaynor, 198, deadlifted 640 pounds at last weekend's APF Masters Nationals held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Gaynor is 61 years of age and has been competing in powerlifting events since the origins of powerlifting in the 1960's. The lift was good for an M5 APF American Record and WPC World Record, breaking the mark set in 1986 by Larry McCauley of 639 pounds. It also ranks him 16th on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings. Gaynor totalled 1,538 pounds, registering a 513 pound squat and 385 pound bench press. Here's video of the deadlift:

Very impressive lift.

Awesome lift at any age. Not everyone can relate to squatting 1000+ or benching 700+, but most everyone, any age, any federation, can relate to an achievement like this. Anytime you see one of the older guys like Bob, Louie pulling 715 at 220 or Jerry Capello & his 800+ it is inspiring. The deadlift is the lift you can improve & push up without any special devices or equipment & as long as you're fairly injury-free, you can keep pushing it up well into your golden years. Keep going Bob!

Hats off to you Sir! Great lifting and huge numbers
But the Lord of the Dance music has to go dude!!

Wow! GREAT JOB!! I hope im still kicking at 61 and ur still pulling like a madman!

This is 10% Luck, 20% Skill, 15% Concentrated Power of Will... 5% Pleasure, 50% Pain, and 100% Reason to Remember the Name!

Congrats to you Bob. This is a true feat of strength.I expect that it may be decades that this record will stand. The possibility of another lifter at 198 lbs and over the age of 60 with the desire to achieve what you have done probably has not been born yet.

That is fantastic Bob. You give us 'old guys' reason to be proud. To get this kind of weight at 198 at any age let alone over 60..... HELL OF A LIFT!!!

Awesome job. Congratulations Bob!!

WOW this is motivating!!!! I ready to go some deads NOW! Awesome Job Bob!

I would like to thank all my training partners at world gym in port st lucie. J.D., Bob, Fred, Doc, Ethan, Tim without your help I would not have done this.

Bob great job by a aweeome lifter!

No excuses! Just lift it!

Outstanding lifting this weekend Bob! The deadlift is awesome! Equally impressive to me is the 1538 total at 61 y.o.! That's really putting some lifts together! Keep kicking butts! Guys like you keep us 'younger' old lifters fired up about our later Masters years! You're proving what a lifter who works and is dedicated can do way past where everybody is telling us we should hang up our belts! It was a pleasure lifting with you!

Now that is awsome lifting at any age as a master now myself at 43 it gives hope for the future. Awsome lift and the music was cool too love it. Ken Ufford

I have known Bob since high school in PA. Bob has never given up on anything including that deadlift. That lift took a lot of intestinal fortitude and the power from a powerful man. This proves age is just a number. Great pull Bob!!!!

Nice lifting Bob.

That is an amazing lift Bob. A little carryover from your training days with John Kuc in PA? Obviously your back is incredibly strong. By the way, is Mr. Kuc still training? Congrats again Bob!!!

WOW. FANTASTIC DEADLIFTING. GREAT MUSIC SELECTION. WHEN, YOU LIFT BIG. YOU, CAN CHOOSE ANY MUSIC YOU WISH.....................

"There is no point in being alive if you cannot do the DeadLift." Jon Pall Sigmarsson...(CONVENTIONAL THAT IS). OLD SCHOOL. There are two types of lifters, those that wish they could DeadLift and those that, Do It....

That was some great lifting. Where is Bob from?
