BPC Hopes To Offer Single Ply Lifting At All Meets

DicksSportingGoods.com

Seizing on an opportunity in Great Britain to appeal to frustrated BWLA lifters, BPC President Brian Batcheldor says at PowerliftingUK that he aims to eventually offer single ply and drug tested divisions at all BPC competitions. The BPC is the British arm of the traditionally multi ply organization, the WPC.

The first such event is the BPC British Student Championships. But, Batcheldor says that is only the beginning, "The concept will be expanded into other areas, I just don't want to run before I can walk here. The eventual goal is to run an AWPC option in all categories, I just need more support with this. From numerous messages I have received from disgruntled lifters from another federation, there is a large demand here. Why not provide them with the type of competition that they are looking for but with our kind of arena. They are athletes and many are now starting to wake up to the fact that they should be treated as such."

So will this give the British lifters an alternative route to BWLA to lift in the IPF? If so then great, if not then it's a waste of time because the majority of tested single ply lifters would want to aim for the best competition out there - the IPF Worlds!

After reading Brian Batcheldor's posts on that same site a while back about how he can get lifters through a drugs test, does anyone think there will be any credability in this?

Finally, do the British lifters need yet another federation? I don't think so.

I've just commented on this over on PLUK. Here's my post:

Sorry guys, but my internet tourettes is kicking in and I just can't control it any more, so I'll pose the questions that half of you are probably thinking:

Who should any gear-taking students wanting to beat the testing system go to for help?

If anyone fails a test, do they get banned from the BPC? If 'yes', how does this tie in with the willingness to accept people who have failed tests in other feds? If 'no', what's the point?

Why would any lifter in their right mind want to leave either the BDFPA or the IPF affiliate in the UK to lift in a tested arm of an untested fed?

We need another powerlifting fed in the country like we need a hole in the head. The sport is already sufficiently fragmentalised, ffs!

If this is an attempt to attract 'disaffected BWLA lifters' it's doomed to failure imo. There IS a steady trickle of lifters from BWLA to BPC - normally this coincides with failed tests! I honestly can't see more than a small minority of BWLA members making the move.

I can testify Brian Batcheldore had this in the works prior to September 2007 long before the current BWLA problems started in our discussion he told me he knew he had to start a drug tested wing of some kind but just needed to work out the details how , this he has done in record time and smoothed over any differences with the GPC at same time , he personly puts a lot of his own time into organising and helping out at events and this latest idea he is very concerned about making it credible and drug free , its a nice sounding package.

It does indeed sound like a nice package. Get kids in to lift drug tested, allow them to take drugs and then help them to pass the test as he has stated on that UK based powerlifting site - what a fantastic idea. I'd keep my school kids well away from anything to do with him.

A little digging reveals the obvious reason, he's got a TV deal for his UKs and wants to try and represent a different, false image.

I am a junior BWLA lifter and would never consider lifting in this new setup. I want to lift with the best and for me, BWLA represents the only way forward as the best lifters are all in the IPF - that's where I want to be.

The majority of non BPC lifters in the UK and Ireland, whether they are BDFPA/IDFPA/WDFPA/BWLA/IPF/BPO lifters regard the BPC as a bit of a joke and would not want to be involved with them in any shape or form.

The only people who appear to be excited about this are BPC people themselves.

and bawla in the uk is not a joke, your off your head

Brian is a cheap whore trying to lure lifters into the BPC in the light of recent crisis. Sorry guys, I'm not buying this one, this is the same guy that was mocking drug tested feds last year. The sooner he is found out, the better, It is a shame that he is now breaking the core tradition of the BPC and now trying to exploit the single ply-drug tested sector. No worries though, soon enough, with Brian B involved, the BPC will become a jack of all trades and master of none!
