Best Gear in the World!

All the federations and multi-ply bullcrap are the reasons that the olympic committee and the media do not take us seriously. Amanda Harris won 7 world championships in one year for god sake.

One organization could provide any combination of divisions based on gear (raw, single-ply, multi-ply), drug testing (tested vs nontested), age, weight, gender. The proliferation of powerlifting federations is not an issue of equipment; it's an issue of personalities. We could unite if the sport were more important than the personalities making up the sport.

There are already too many. The IPF is the international governing body for PL, but the USPF is USA's governing body. I am pretty sure that is why it cant be an Olympic sport. Those feds arent affiliated.

Also, the WR's are all crap cause there is no consistent basis on which they are awarded.

gilbert michaud. well powerlifting is a young sport but things are changing faster in this sport than in many oldersports .weightlifting records are stalling by comparison.

More feds are not good for powerlifitng. But I like the idea. If I make up my own fed, then finally, I too can be champion!

I do not agree that the lack of unity in powerlifting, is the reason it is not an olympic sport. As we look at the types of new sports in the olympics, we see it is viewer attention that attracts the attention of the olympics (beach volleyball?) Who wants to watch a bunch of dudes lifitng weights? Now chicks in panties knocking a ball around in the sand??? Sweet!

Let's accept the fact that PL is a sport for freaks who like to punish themselves, then look back and see how cool it was!

For anybody who voted yes, I challenge you to give me one reason why.

the reason there stalling is because you have to get fuckin stronger! not like powerlifting, were once you figure out the gear all you need to do is tweek the shirt more.
I see it all the time on the web, a guy benches 800lbs. then everybody posts you'll be at 900lbs. by your next meet, WTF

i don't mean this in an antagonistic way, but are multiple feds a problem outside of the USA? Is this a US centric thing?

I'm pretty new to powerlifting in terms of following it as a sport, so I'm just curious really

The proliferation of federations in America is on a whole other scale than it is internationally. Here's an indication. However, the move in that direction can be seen in other countries. The extent to which fragmentation will occur in those countries will only be revealed in time.
