Video Of Wade Johnson's 2,280 Total

Wade Johnson, shw, totalled 2,280 pound on Saturday at the SPF Tennessee State Championships held in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Johnson squatted 960 pounds, benched 660, and deadlifted 660 pounds. Here's video of the three lifts:

that bench didn't look too good

bench looked like no lock out and a bad rack attempt. Squat and pull looked good.

Congratulations Wade!

Congrats wade!

Great Lifting Saturday Wade! Big Congrats! You've got a great crew with you too!

wow double overhand grip on deadlift, thats different.

Wade,

I have no problem with lifting in a fed and following that feds rules, however could you comment on the 3 videos that you posted above.

The SQUAT ? ( even looking at it side ways you were maybe below 1/4 but no where near parallel ) in my view.

The BENCH ? (was not close to lock out on the left arm?)

THE DEADLIFT? ( again 660 attempt should have been red lighted due to you were losing your grip before you even got to the finish of the lift)

Here is my point, you look old enough to know what "clean" lifts are, and so is it your position that, so what! I will go to meets tat pass junk? I know you more than likely will refuse to answer except with "i am not going to get into a bashing match" with you!

This is not a bash but just an observation and an honest open question to you and why and how a guy rationalize lifts today?

For the record. I do not know if it was APF. WPO. NUTSA, ABC, XYZ..... it really does not matter what fed, this is about you as a lifter and your integrity !

Thanks

late

Tim, thanks for your comments.

I felt like I was in the pocket on the squat.

My arms were locked out however, it was not my best showing on bench.

My pull, my grip was never going away. With the hook, the bar will seat once you come off the floor but, I can assure you, I was not near losing my grip.

I don't think there is anything there that would allow my integrity to be in question. However, I understand that's a matter of opinion. I'll respect yours here as well.

As for my choice in meet, it was close to home and a come back meet for me. It was an SPF meet and I go back with some of those guys a ways.

I know you want to goad me into something but, we will never agree on this. I felt like I was being judged fairly by Sam Byrd and Rick Posey on the sides who are not in the habit of giving away lifts.

Thanks again, Tim

The squat was 1/4...are you kidding me. If you think it is high then say an inch or so. Saying it is just below a 1/4 squat is just stupid and uncalled for.

Wade

Please give up the "goad me" thing! Dude if I wanted to "goad you" then I would?

Even though you responded, what about my questions about the videos? Did You even watch the videos yourself? I was not there and as stated before ....FROM THE VIDEOS ABOVE, once you had a chance to watch them do you really think that they were good?

Even Ray Charles could see that your squat was high (for parallel) as with your bench and the dead , appeared that you were losing your grip before the down signal? If the grip was the only infraction of all 3 lifts then so be it but when all 3 lifts looked sloppy even for gym lifts.

Seems like the way many lifters get their lifts up is by bogus ways? I mean you have to agree that it is not roids or equipment that is killing the sport its the bogus lifters going to bullshit meets to get crap passed! regardless what I think of you or you of me, does not mean you can still have integrity when it comes to lifting? But again that is my opinion.

PS When I "goad you" you will know it!

"The SQUAT ? ( even looking at it side ways you were maybe below 1/4 but no where near parallel ) in my view"

What? That is a picture perfect squat. He broke parallel and that's all the rules say. You do not have to park your ass on the floor regardless of what some feds seem to think.

The deadlit was good also. Just because someone struggles ever so slightly does not make it a bad lift. Where the heck did you see him lose his grip?!

The bench press... the video did not show whether his left arm was locked out or not, but I was not there. The judges were there and called it good. So it was good!!

Congratulations Wade. Nice lifting!! I can tell by your response to the person who was outrageously negative that you are a class individual with a boatload of integrity!!! Don't let the haters lessen your awesome achievement.

1/4 below is breaking Parallel what in the hell are u saying? You must be an inch below. Parallel is Parallel. And if Sam and Rick are judging then you know the squat wasnt high. Congrats on the Lift Wade.

Great lifting Wade.

Good squat Wade. It was in there.

You must have done something really good to Bruner to have him folloing u around the net forums to piss on ur parade. I dont ever see him post over here... he made a special appearence just for you. you should feel privilaged. Just remember, if u dont have people talking shit about u, then ur not doing anything worth talking about.

Wade! good to see you lifting again and I think you know who this is lol. You look older and greyer, but your DL looks better than it did when we competed together what seems a million years ago.

For a comeback effort, way to go Big man, and yeah, I really wonder why the people's champ is here giving you grief lol. Unless he's making YOUR weight class now? perceived THREAT? (grin)

I'd have kept in touch better but your email addy's always seem to be down, perhaps Timmy! flames overload your system? Good seeing you lift again, and for a comeback meet, cool. I know your form is better in the bench and squat both, and I'm sure you'll display this soon enough.

Thanks for the clarification, Tim.

I saw them and feel they are good, yes. We seem to have a difference of opinion, that's certainly allowed.

Even Ray Charles could see that your squat was high (for parallel) as with your bench and the dead , appeared that you were losing your grip before the down signal? If the grip was the only infraction of all 3 lifts then so be it but when all 3 lifts looked sloppy even for gym lifts.
While Ray was a great musician, writer and entertainer, he was never a judge on a powerlifitng platform. That's old material, Tim. You are much more creative than that.

Seems like the way many lifters get their lifts up is by bogus ways?
My track record speaks for itself, Tim. I have lifted in several federations with and without gear and always without drugs.

I mean you have to agree that it is not roids or equipment that is killing the sport its the bogus lifters going to bullshit meets to get crap passed! regardless what I think of you or you of me, does not mean you can still have integrity when it comes to lifting?
I don't feel my integrity is in question here, Tim. I could give you a list of meets but, that's usually your thing and I would be stealing material. I went to the meet simply, because it was close to home and easy for my group to attend. I know alot of those folks there and enjoy getting to hang out with them.

But again that is my opinion.
And nothing more as was mine, an opinion.

PS When I "goad you" you will know it!
You did and I knew it. But, it is pretty scary when you say it like that, I'll give you that.

late

Tim, feel free. This is your parade after all. I went to a meet that I trained very hard for after dealing with quite a few tings just to make it back to the platform. My lifting is mine and nothing more. You are free to have your say but, once in a while, don't you feel guilty for always being so pissy? And don't you have bigger targets than me? I'm just your average guy lifting average weight. However, you have made me feel special today so, I thank you for that.

Bunny wrote:

Bunny, do you have my e-mail address? I have switched jobs. If you have the yahoo account, shoot me an e-mail so we can catch up.

Wade'

'Fair enough.
All I asked was if you thought they were good solid lifts after seeing them on the clip. You answered and that is all I was asking.

I know POWERLIFTING Watch takes a deep breath when I post , simply due to the Nut jobs from Nutsa that will attack him and the forum because I post. I too have had a lift turned down (Never a squat) but my deadlift, and I thought I was robbed, but after seeing the lift myself I too thought it was not good?

SO when someone post a video of their lifts and then brag abut them , that is cool, but if they are junk sloppy gyms lifts then instead of talking sh8t behind their backs I have no problem asking that person.

We all have different opinions and that is OK with me.

Yet mine is the only one that matters!

wwhoooww

late

Tim, I have no beef with you. I feel like my lifts are legit. I think you are right, every where you post, everyone takes a deep breath. Like I said, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. Maybe if you saw me lift live, you might feel differently.

Continued success with your lifting and promotion. I don't have to agree with everything you say and do to appreciate hard work in promoting the sport.

As for any of my lifts, if the bench had been turned down, I wouldn't have felt ripped. It was close and I knew that. I didn't think I went down but, like I have posted, I wasn't sure. I can't accurately tell you how the judges scored it though. I just know from my group it was called good.

There is another group of videos not yet posted. I haven't seen them and perhaps that will give you a better view. Either way, everyone is able to have a say and for my lifting to create a post or two is far beyond anything I would ever expect given my numbers.

squat looked good, dl looked good... the bench.... another story lol

but what is the big deal about this total though?

Great lifting Wade! I'm not an internet video judge, but from what I could see, they looked fine. Your squat was definitely in there and I love your meathook grip! I can see in the bench you were racking when you were told to. Not your fault you're getting the rack call quickly, but hey....the head judge is giving you the rack call when he sees control of the bar at the top and things were called just fine, no need to make you hold it at the top for hours, right?

Good job on your lifting especially for a comeback!

very nice work Wade, it's nice to see things come together after follwing your log. Not only was that squat parallel, but you held the bastard there forever, show off, LOL.

You also handled Bruner in your usual professional way.

I appreciate the comments.

Yeah, I have very short arms for a larger guy so pulling for me has always been a challenge. I've always had a bigger squat.

To hell with everyones synical comments Wade! You did a great job. Everyone on this board thinks that they are superman anyway....but you are right opinions are like assholes everybodys got one, and some have two....

GOOD LIFTING WADE....AND EVEN BETTER HANDLING OF A BRUNER. I DO NOT KNOW YOU BUT YOU ARE A STAND UP GUY IN MY BOOK FOR THE EFFORT THAT YOU DISPLAYED ON THE PLATFORM AND THE CLASS YOU DISPLAYED WHEN SOMEONE THAT WAS NOT EVEN AT THE MEET WANTS TO PLAY CRITIC. GOOD J0B WADE AND KEEP UP THE GOOD LIFTING.....

Squat looked good to me. Deadlift reflects the Olympic training that you have been posting about. You set up like you are getting prepared to "snatch". Great job keeping your torso straight and upright.

The bench is another story. The last time I saw a sorry assed bench like that approved was in Charlotte, NC, at the 2006 USAPL Bench Press Nationals. Three red lights were over-ruled by a "jury decision" for a very well known member of their "World Team".

Wade, you look a little bit thin and anemic. You need to "eat more pizza"!

Congrats Wade.

NICE WORK WADE!!! Thats a phenomenal deadlift...especially without a belt and hook gripped!

No Excuses...Just results

Dude, shut the hell up. That man's pull was solid and his squat fit the rule books.

Brother that pull is bad fucking ass.

Almost 700 for any man is great!

Thanks so much for the positive comments. A quick run down. I went 7-9. In the squat, I went 890-930-960. I couldn't have asked for a better day there.

For the bench, I was great in the warm up area but for me, and I seemed to be the only one that struggled, the bench was low to the ground. I had a hard time setting up. I opened at 625 and then missed 660 at lock out, then I came back to the third that is on video.

Deadlift, I hit 625-660 and felt like 680 was plenty doable to total 2,300. I got a little forward coming off the floor and stalled right before lock out. I held it for a good deal of time so, the grip was never an issue.

Someone asked if this was single ply, no, it was double ply. As for who I am, just a guy that loves doing the sport and being part of it. I have been very fortunate to do what I do, nothing more.

Good lifting! I love to see the hook grip employed!

Chris

Great lifting Wade. I watched Wade lift in this meet and every lift that was passed was a good lift.

Great lifing and that was a big ole total
Wade. As always it was great to see ya back on the platform. You and your crew are alway a lot of fun to watch. There is no doubt you have everything down pat. Congrat and see ya soon. Jesse

reminder;DON'T INTERPRET THE SQUAT RULE,JUST FOLLOW WHAT IT STATES.

LOL , A 1/4 inch high on squats ?? That had to be the most foolish remark I have seen on this board . That squat was clean , Bench was so ,so But he still hit that as well . And the pull was easy . THEPEOPELSCHAMP you need to relax bro its obvious wade has pissed you off in another life but to come on here and trash talking the mans lifts is not going to help you

Oregon power
www.ironasylumoregon.com

On a side note wade , you know your moving some real weight around when haters get on these boards and trash talk your lifts (When they are clean ) To make you feel like crap . I hope that kinda of stuff doesnt bother you big guy .. Great total

Thanks, Jason.

It doesn't bother me. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. It's not a big deal. I appreciate the feed back regardless and you'll never please everyone.

If I was solving the worlds problems it would be one thing but, really, all I'm doing is trying to lift as much weight as I can, nothing more.

I had a good time at the meet. Our group was there, I got to see Jesse and crew, shared the platform with Brent Tracy and the NC trailer park crew and was there with family and friends. It simply doesn't get any better than that.

IMO:

- The squat was pretty close. White from the front for sure.

- The bench was a gift. Visible dip, plus the lockout was already drifting toward the rack.

- DL was good - no loss of grip.

Gonna hit a NASA meet anytime soon? Are you training at all in single-ply? How old are you?

I'm 42, be 43 later this year. I train in all types of gear and even without. As for NASA, I want to do another PS meet as I haven't done one in a long time. I have a pal that is doing the pro thing and I want to support him and try to push him a little.

Hook grip rulz. I am training to crush the world with my manly hook grip. Grr.

That squat looked good to me. I read "THEPEOPELCHAMP"'s [sic] comments before watching the video, so I kept expecting you to cut it short, but you just kept going down. I even turned my head sideways and watched it again. It looked even better the second time.

The comments on your video do raise some interesting questions, just not the intended ones.
