Interview With Bench Star Richie Briggs of Big Iron Gym

DicksSportingGoods.com

Critical Bench interviews young bench star Richie Briggs, 242, of Big Iron Gym. Asked what the reasons are for all of the big benches as of late, like Kennelly's 1,036 and Luyando's 914, he answers:

Yes strength training has evolved, but for Rob he has really worked his ass off meet after meet and week after week. He lives for it and I think when I beat him at 2006 APF Seniors that was his turning point. He looked at what he was doing wrong and fixed it, and does that from meet to meet. He competes all the time which is why he is the best and not the best guy running a few boards giving advice and has not competed for a year and half. Ryan said screw this floating around 308 and went big and now no one will ever catch him. With both of these guys they listen to what people say, don't have an ego and take constructive advice, I know Rick talks to them both and they listen.

Holy cow! To whom is Richie referring?

Richie is not sponsored? That's a travesty of powerlifting justice.

Putt I think he is sponsered by Inzer now, if not then he should be.

Why do you always try to start crap? Your stupid trolling comment has nothing to do with this lifter's interview.

To answer the question, at present Richie is not sponsored by Inzer. He's going to be one of the big dogs for a long time, so I hope they decide to take him on.

by the way, I didn't mention how much I love the high school picture Richie... keep them coming!!!

I wonder how long the USAPL will allow Jim Ray to do what he does on every powerlifting board there is. He is supposed to be representing them at a world meet, yet he is an embarrassment daily to himself, the sport, and the USAPL. Might be time for someone to muzzle that guy.

blah blah blah

A troll calling me a troll? My comment has everything to do with this lifter's comment. If you don't think RB is calling someone out here, what do you think he means?

"...do what he does...." You mean like tell the truth and put my name beside it? The internet would be a much better place if everyone had to put their name beside their opinions because cowards like you would have to leave. And where do you people come up with these STUPID troll names?

A muzzle? THAT's the American way....

Jim, it's always the same with you. I'm sure in person you are a nice guy. You seem to be a talented bencher. It's just that your name is all over the internet, and not in a positive way. I guess if the USAPL does not care, why should I? More power to you. At least it's not boring when you are posting. Posting with a real name, that's a personal choice. Freedom of speech does not just cover stupid comments, it covers posting under different names. Look it up, I'm sure you have the time.

the lifter he is talking about is Gene

i love how everyone bashes gene for not competing recently. wasnt he just in the hospital for like a couple weeks? and maybe other things are more important in the guys lifte who knows. doesnt take away from his accomplishments.

That was my guess. I agree with the poster before me - sometimes (most of the time?) we don't know the whole story.
