WPF Iceland Bench Meet Performances

At a WPF Bench Meet held yesterday in Iceland, Finland's Jani Murtomaki, shw, benched 815 pounds. He also made his opener and second attempts of 727 and 771 pounds. Murtomaki used an IPF approved single ply Metal shirt for all attempts.

Also at the meet was four-time WSM Champion Magnus Ver Magnusson. Magnusson benched 540 pounds. He also made his opener at 507 pounds but missed a third attempt at 562 pounds.

STRONG!! Very technically sound too!

was this an ipf sanctioned meet? that could be a new ipf bench world record!

hi,

it couldn't have been an ipf meet. he is an EXTREMELY strong man, but his head was up, his feet weren't flat, and the pause probably wouldn't have been long enough for the lift to have been passed in an ipf meet. im not bagging, as i said he's extremely strong, but there are different rules in different feds.

i always thought murtomaki competed in 2 ply bench shirts why the change ? is he planning on competing in the ipf ? didnt he hit 880 with multi ply shirt ?

i dunno from what ive been hearing this new single ply material is awesome. i believe mark "jackass" bell prefers this single ply over a multi ply shirt.

It was WPF meet..We hafe just started a club/federation with membership at WPF. I was head refere in the contest and gave Murtomaki the press signal when he had touched the chest with the bar. A great lifter he is. Lifted this weight not even in top shape. Magnus Ver had been ill for the last days of the meet and had dropped down 5 kilos of bodyweight. Other icelander young Sigfús Fossdal made 290kg with power to spare and have some bright future for big weights in the bench...

Iceland just recently joined the WPF in November 2007 leaving the IPF. It will be great to have Iceland competing in the WPF Worlds in Vienna, Austria, 13-16 Nov.

Feet must be flat in the WPF and I noticed one judge redlighted Murtomaki. Head is optional in the WPF.

Iceland didnt leave IPF, Kári (comenting above), Magnús Ver, and few more just opend up a new federation in Iceland for WPF. And yes, many of us are looking forward to Vienna.

Just to add with it so there is no missunderstanding, Jóhanna Eiríksdóttir is the one who lead the opening of WPF federation in Iceland, and is the president of ÍKF Metal, the Icelandic WPF federation. Magnús and Kári are two of the board members of the federation, and even thoug only few opend it, it is getting more and more attention here in Iceland.

This is good news for the WPF, getting top lifters like Murtomaki/Magnusson and others competing in the fed. More and more competition will be in the WPF and USPF.

Magnusson,
is one of the great strongmen of all-time and it is great to see him active in powerlifting again. Also it is good to hear that the WPF is starting something in Iceland.

I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous. As much as the judging may be/have been in the ipa, wpo, etc, the judging is clearly too strict in the ipf and apparently teh WPF. When did his head come up? How far, a millimeter? The pause wasnt long enough? Where does it say how long the pause should be, it jsut says there should be a pause. People speak of touch0and-go as if its equivalent to watching child porn; hell, as long as youre not heaving it, all that should be required is a touch, done under control.

I honestly dont understand why his 3rd was redlighted
