Just out of curiosity, how are the nominees decided? Hooper was beaten by Olech (who set a WR in the squat) and Gillingham was beaten by Bondarenko. Neither of the two are on the list. Two other lifters set IPF total world records: Fedosienko 1543 @ 123 and Belyaev 2155 @ 198. At first I thought it was because they aren't American, but neither is Bolton or Yarymbash. It's arguable the 3 out of the 4 are definitely the strongest men in their weight class (Fed, Olech, Belyaev). I'm sure there may be updates to the nominee list.

Good Luck Brian!

You mention some worthy choices. Please see my comments regarding non-English speaking countries here, http://www.powerliftingwatch.com/node/6652#comment-36624. If I could find reliable correspondents from other countries I could expand the scope of Powerlifting Watch.

Siders is by far the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bolton by far and he will break 2900 next

Jon, the lifters I was talking about set the records at the IPF Worlds. I understand it is difficult to find out what they did in their home country, but the instances mentioned above were done at the most revered meet in powerlifting...the IPF Worlds. I'm sure your site covers that meet. Even some of the videos were on this site (Olech, Belyaev squat).

My concern is recognizing such lifts when the same lifter may have bettered that lift in events in their home country. Again, I'd be viewing a very incomplete picture.

well just take the IPF worlds as the lift. im sorry but this cannot go unnoticed if wade hooper's lifts from the IPF worlds are, im a huge hoop fan but he did place 2nd so... Belyaev squatted 380 this year and came away with the win, stick that in?

I would take Yarymbash out then. He from a non-English speaking country. I guess it's no big deal though.

But he competes in a federation which publishes (WPO/WPC) results in English.

I understand your frustration. But I'd rather not include those lifters and present an incomplete though accurate picture than include them and possibly present an inaccurate one.

The IPF doesn't publish their results in English? So does their affiliate, the European Powerlifting Federation...
Oh well, we're beating a dead horse. It's just a shame because it's discounting the Russians, Ukrainians, Polish, etc. The best lifters in the world outside of SHW.

Russia, Ukraine, etc. are also affiliated at the country level. At that level they don't publish their results in a language readable by me. As I've said, if you, or anyone else, can help me with that I'd be happy to recognize lifters from around the world. At this point, you're asking me to do something I simply can't do! Unfortunately, yes it does leave out SOME of the best lifters in the world.

i cannot believe that anyone is beating out frankl right now. are you guys aware of the things hes done this year including a 2400+ total at 198 and a QUADRUPLE bodyweight bench. this shit is unheard of and he does it meet after meet, hes now ove 200 lbs. higher in total than the next closest guy.

I dont think theres any question at all that frankl should win this hands down.

belyaev forever! his world champs results were published in english, thats good enough.

Brian your my hero.

Frankl's a man among other men.

Zane, Frankl's total is 90lbs higher than anyone else's in his class. Sergey Naleykin totaled 2310, but keep in mind he never even totaled 1900 in the IPF.

shawn totaled 2469 at the apf rick hussey meet

Vote Shawn Frankl a living legend you all are experiencing the 2000's Ed Coan in todays equipment he is the best bar non, and an outstanding man!

im not what you would call a power lifter. ive done a one meet before... i think Shawn is a incredable power lifter and has done more with the sport then one would like to think... So who gives a shit about other people in other countries.. as far as im conceren theres only, one.. So stop all the crying and give credit when credit is do... Shawn your the best pound for pound in the world.. no one has ever benched four time there body weight... wait wait .. oh ya YOU DID.....

Freak for powerlifter of the year. You deserve it man. You truley are the best the sport has to offer.(from the brownstone)

schwab will win because of the immense popularity of elitefts and schwab has made a couple posts asking everybody to vote for him.

frankl should win hands down. nobody is in his league.

Freako is the best hands down! Good luck shawn

Sorry, for some reason I was thinking that the Rick Hussey meet was unsanctioned, that's why I said Frankl's total was 2400. If it was sanctioned, then it should count...

Honestly, I think it should be Siders. He competes drug-free, which is huge. 2600+ in the USAPL/IPF is crazy. Besides, his missed squat and bench would've probably counted in the more lax feds. Single-ply. Walk-outs are huge too.

ricks full meet was sanctioned apf. the bench only show at night was not sanctioned

You are saying that APF/WPO can add over 400 lbs to an IPF lifters total? Say it ain't so! There is no way that double-ply denim gear, a monolift, no DTing, longer wraps, loose judging and 24-48 hr weigh-ins can produce an additional 400 lbs at 198. Or can they????

where has kutcher been lost in all of this? did he not BEAT brian schwab @ the WPO's?? no??

...

petrillo and tincher both beat schwab as well. brian has benched 600 and squatted more since then i believe. he's more deserved than the other guys who beat him with some of the other meets he's done. he's also a legitmate 65er...he doesn't cut from nearly 200 like tincher and petrillo...

COME ON PEOPLE! BIG IRONS POSTING COME VOTE FOR THERE LIFTERS AT BIG IRON GYM.. COMEON!!!!!!!!!

http://www.bigirongym.com/index.php?id=forum&page=viewtopic&thread=55

How in the world is Brian Schwad winning this? Aren't there guys with single-ply totals close to his? I voted for Siders easily. Is Schwab campaigning for votes or something? This is ridiculous...

a 600lb bench at 148 is ridiculous!!!!

Putt Houston.... now with more Bom Chicka Wahwahhhhhh

sorry guys but some of the men on the lift would have big difficult to win a regional meet in russia IPF.
Powerlifting would be forever a clowny sport if we cant look at the true.
Today Belyaev is the Michael Jordan of powerlifting. NO way, every serious coach knows it.
As a Jumper would not consider Bubka because he is Ukranian and not compete in a NON OLYMPIC NON TESTED PRIVATE FEDERATION. (or michael jordan because he dont play in harlem globtrotter federation)
COME ON! WE are RIDICOLOUS!
