Rick Hussey Benefit Meet Raises $15,000

The APF Rick Hussey Benefit Meet and unsanctioned Bench Meet raised almost $15,000 to help with medical bills for Big Iron Gym coach Rick Hussey. Hussey, who lacked health insurance, underwent surgery and follow up treatments for a form of cancer earlier this year.

Hussey:

First of all, I want to thank all the sponsors, competitors and spectators. A special thanks to Rob Luyando and anyone else involved in selling t-shirts, they raised almost $3,000. Thanks to Inzer, Max Muscle, GNC, Red Bull, McKenna's BBQ and Aflac for sponsorship and support. There are so many individuals and gyms that reached out to help. With donations and meet funds we raised nearly $15,000. I am so thankful!

It's great to see people giving back to one of the best coaches in powerlifting. Rick isn't just a great coach he's a great guy who takes care of all his lifters and friends anytime he is able. Without Rick and Big Iron Gym I'm not sure I wouldn't still be drinking every night. Thanks Rick for being the BEST coach in the world and a great friend and mentor. I almost turned down my job in Charlotte (and a giant increase in income) just so I could continue training at B.I.G.. Once again, congrats to all who competed in the meet and thanks to Rick for being Rick!!
