All About Wrist Wraps

Marilia Coutinho writes an article (pdf) about the history of wrist wraps and their relationship to injury prevention and performance enhancement.

Since the early precursors of modern wrist wraps, support, injury prevention and “added strength” have been their purpose. Today, variants of the sports wrist wraps are also used for therapeutic reasons. There is no doubt that athletes find this device useful both for injury prevention and performance enhancement, although the exact mechanism for the observed increased performance may not be understood...

Besides the technical aspect, the relationship between lifter and equipment has a psychological and emotional component.

Marilia is certainly one of a kind.

She always has something interesting to say. Great!

I suggested wrist wraps to the employees at Cold Stone Creamery (the ice cream place where they put your ice cream on a mable slab to soften it up.) Working there has got to be rough on the wrists.

Great read. That's really interesting how the wrist stability seems to impact the elbows, and how the real benefit seems to be stability and CNS related. Good stuff.

She sure does give us a lot of useful information. Thanks!!!

I have been advised that my elbow and shoulder problems are from supporting degenerative changes in my wrist. I use wraps on work sets for squat and bench and on all overhead work. The wraps seem to be aleviating the problem.

Very good aritcle.

As always. Great read and very informative.
