ADAU To Erase AAU Lifts From Its Record Book

ADAU President Allan Siegel announces that the federation will remove all AAU lifts from its record book. When Siegel left the AAU in 2000 to found the ADAU he brought with him the raw powerlifting records from the AAU.

When we started the ADAU in early 2000, we decided to start American single Lift records from scratch.

We also decided to continue with the Raw AAU records for Powerlifting, since we were just continuing the program that we started.

In 2006, at the National Meeting it was decided to "purge" the records and remove those records of lifters, who in almost 6 years, never lifted in the ADAU. After a long discussion it was decided to table that move until 2007.

At the 2007 meeting it was decided to go ahead with this "purging". I, as record keeper have already started this process. By the end of the year ALL old records will be removed and the new records will only include lifts of ADAU members, and this will include records done in the AAU by lifters who competed in the ADAU meets after 1999.

We have gone back into the files of all previous National meets and will fill in the records with lifts from ADAU lifters who, at the time, thought they were not breaking the record. We are not perfect and expect to miss a few, but when the new records are posted and you see where your lift might be omitted, please get in touch with me and I'll do my best to correct the situation.

Al, honestly, why did you do that in the first place. If you really wanted to carry on an AAU raw program, you should have stayed with AAU.

even more, how will the lifters feel that you gave records to and now take them away? if the lifters did the lift with aau, and you honored it, they lift with you at adau, and now they have no record? what logic is this!

what's to stop you from purging lifts in 5 years, like other feds did, out of spite to those "no longer lifting with you" and not honor them as records when they clearly ARE?

if the records were tested records, they should remain. but what part of taking the aau record set with you made sense anyway? were you hoping those lifters would magically be attached and follow their records? if you took some of my records, i would not follow you just because you wrote them down as part of your new federation....

Agreed. Plus, by erasing the top lifts, and giving the record to whoever was next in line, what if that next person was not tested at the time? Since record lifts need to be tested before acknowledging them as a record, should that person be credited with a record if he wasn't tested?

It is my understanding of Al's decision that, if you are or ever have been a member of the ADAU your record will continue to count. If you have never been in the ADAU, your record will no longer count. RW Jeffery
