Inzer Responds To Kazmaier

Inzer has issued a statement which addresses the recent comments made by Bill Kazmaier.

IAD representative Amanda C.:

Mr. Kazmaier, IAD representatives are aware of your post. Powerlifting is a great sport and IAD is obliged to defend it and its supporters. IAD is also aware of the recent factual communications with the IPF Executives and that these communicated facts upset you. Your public post contains your opinions as well as inaccurate statements. That lack could be explained by your own admission that you have ignored the great sport of powerlifting for over two decades. One might ask, if the sport was so great “25 years ago” why did you walk away from it and stay away for “25 years”.

Sadly you imply that powerlifting is a joke and not taken seriously by anyone. Many lifters would take exception to that statement. Powerlifting has grown in the past 25 years. The USA has many different federations to choose from. The USA also has a number of unsanctioned meets. Some meets make up their own rules and create their own records. Many see this as a fragmentation of the sport of powerlifting. Yet, the numbers of lifters and the numbers of competitions have increased. On the international scene the IPF has grown to 100 nations. At this same time the WPC is also growing internationally at a rapid rate. Other federations report growth as well.

You blame equipment manufacturers and two individuals for making the sport into “a back yard circus act.” You speak of lifters being ‘threatened”. No member of Inzer Advance Designs has threatened any lifter. Nor has IAD attacked the nerb competition you are promoting or any other powerlifting competitions. IAD maintains close and good relationships with its sponsored endorsers. This fact is easy for everyone to understand. It’s a no brainer.

Nick Busick, a proven prolific meet director, summed it all up in fewer words in his post.
“For years these equipment vendors have assisted in sponsorships. Certainly they are within their right not to endorse a raw competition or a direct competitor not endorsing their product. “

This company could list HUNDREDS of such statements from federation heads, meet directors and lifters from a wide variety of federations and competitions.

Mr Kazmaier, you state an opinion against the powerlifting gear manufacturers that you would like others to believe. Since you have been away 25 years we offer you the opinion of the IPF Congress as to one powerlifting gear manufacturer. This is taken from the minutes of the IPF Congress.

“Mr. John Inzer, and his company Inzer Advance Designs, have been the biggest and most consistent sponsor of IPF competitions for many years. Quietly, behind the scenes, Inzer’s company and representative, Mr. Peter Thorne, have acted in many ways to ensure that the organization of some of the contests were successful. At the request of the IPF and meet directors this company has quietly stepped in and possibly saved several IPF world championships.”

This statement is in the IPF minutes, 2001. It was presented to the IPF Congress and APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY by all nations without reservations or exemptions.

You Wrote: “when powerlifting was on the rise and was being considered as an addition to the Olympics.”
Again a statement made without facts. The time you speak of there was a very weak effort for IOC recognition. Little ground work had been done and no preparation had been made.

Today things are vastly different and again with the help of all the major “gear manufacturers". Another "gear manufacturer” has donated money to the IPF for its IOC quest. Since 1995 Inzer Advance Designs' International Representative has been to nearly every GAISF (General Assembly of Sports Federations) meeting. The Inzer representative has traveled from Monaco, Singapore, Germany, Colorado Springs and all around the world assisting the IPF in its IOC bid. The efforts on the part of Mr. Inzer and his company have been noted by the IPF Administration any number of times. This was acknowledged when the IPF posted "Inzer Advance Deigns is the premier sponsor of the IOC movement." Our man on the scene and the IPF President have reported that IOC officials have witnessed international competitions. The IOC officials were very favorably impressed with powerlifting. The IOC officials did not view powerlfting as a joke or back yard circus. At this moment, after years of meetings and with the assistance of Inzer Advance Designs powerlifting recognition by the IOC is CLOSER than it has EVER been. It is closer than at the time you refer to 25 plus years go. Today all the IOC filings are completed. The IOC board is in direct contact with the IPF. Powerlifting has met every prerequisite. This is a very expensive, long term and tedious project. This has never been done before. President Wallauch returned from Korea last week with additional positive meetings with IOC officials. The facts contradict your statement. President Norbert Wallauch has written about this and praised Inzer Advance Designs for the company’s contribution that led to the first ever fully completed IOC bid. This project is ongoing. Open communications are maintained with the IOC.

That is the same powerlifting company you seem to be blaming. The bottom line is you have a very negative opinion of the sport and little knowledge of the overall landscape. You are quick to downgrade the sport and then place the blame on the supporters of the sport. We understand you have a personal stake in your meet but it should not lead to denigrating the sport of powerlifting and spreading misleading information.

We believe it is due to the fact you are uninformed as to what is really happening in this sport today, a sport you would have had nothing to do with for 25 years. In your defense, you would not be expected to know about these things after so long an absence.

We hope your professed current involvement with powerlifting will turn into a positive and supporting effect with the sport. We wish you well with your future.

Yeah! This was the one I was waiting for... Eat it Bill. Inzer just went way up in my book...

bill is a great guy go fucking piss up a rope anonymous

I agree with him, and I guess Inzer does too.

Kaz makes a statement that is evident to all and Inzer decides to quote minutes from a meeting! I call bullshit on that one. Powerlifting is no closer to becoming an Olympic sport then it was 25 years ago. In fact, the gear issue is destroying the credibility of strength athletes in the eyes of the world.

Who was Inzer's post primarily aimed at? Equipped lifters, raw lifters, or those equipped lifters who might be swayed to lift raw?

I DO HOPE YOU ALL ARE ADULTS , CUZ I'M HEARING ALOT OF WHINING . THIS ISSUE WILL NEVER BE SOLVED BECAUSE DOING SO WOULD MEAN HUGE FINANCIAL LOSSES FOR OUR SPORT . WHY WOULD ANYONE WHETHER ITS INZER ,TITAN OR OTHER GEAR MANUFACTUERS JUST STOP MAKING THE GEAR , THEY WONT . THEY WOULD BE COMMITING FINANCIAL SUICIDE . TOO MUCH TIME HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPEMENT OF THEIR PRODUCTS. WHY WOULD THEY CLOSE THEIR BUSINESS TO SATISFY THE GRUMBLINGS OF A CERTAIN PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE . IF YOU WANT TO LIFT RAW GREAT , I'LL SUPPORT YOU , AND IF YOU WANT TO LIFT GEARED , I'LL SUPPORT YOU TOO . JUST STOP COMPLAINING , AND START A MAJOR RAW FED , AND OVER HERE, ANOTHER FED FOR THE GEARED . CASE CLOSED.

"Now many may, or may not be aware, that it was the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) that was the first international governing body for Powerlifting.

In 1968, at the Mexico Olympics, the IWF congress voted for adopt complete control of Powerlifting. This was primarily due to the efforts of then IWF General Secretary, Oscar State of Britain. Now, it should be noted that Mr. State had many political adversaries within the IWF hierarchy. Thus, a year later at the World WL Championships in Lima, Peru, these adversaries took advantage of the absence of Mr. State at the 1969 IWF meetings!

Because of an illness Mr. State was unable to attend those meetings, and this gave his political adversaries the chance to get Powerlifting removed. They used testimony from the IWF medical committee doctors, who deemed Powerlifting too dangerous."

KNOWING YOUR HISTORY
Part 1: Power Lifting As An Olympic Sport?!?!
By: J.V. Askem

If you read Inzer's commentary and compare it to the quote from Askem they're right in their remarks. Sounds like powerlifting was never taken seriously...

People wear gear because all three of the lifts put them at a physical disadvantage and prone to injury. With the exception of the deadlift all three lifts rely on specialized equipment designed to hand you off the weight. The deadlift itself is nothing more than a modified continental style lift (without the finishing move) that was disallowed in Olympic competition. All three were the red headed step children of lifting, even in the beginning.

As for Bill Kazmaier I don't know the guy and can't comment - only fans (not competitors) comment on people they either don't know or are only aquainted with... However, Inzer has been a non-stop fixture in powerlifting for the past 20 or more years Mr. Kazmaier is better known for strongman competition quite a long time ago and powerlifting even longer ago... I don't recall anyone ever appointing him ambassador to strength sports.

Equipment levels the playing field for all body types. Instead of seeing only 5'5" to 5'9" guys (who have an advantage in unequipt leverage) now you can see all types...

i call bullsh@t on yer callin'his bullsh@t bullsh@t . so there, i'll get you , and your little dog tooo. he heh heeehee...

this shit is funny as fuck.....hahahahahahahaha.........howabout we call raw lifting powerlifting, since the lifter provides ALL the power, and we call equipped lifting gearlifting or better yet....somewhat powerlifting? since the lifter only provides part of the power and the gear does the rest.........hahahahaha.........newsflash gear heads.......when they shut the lights off and you go home thinking your 455 bench was you, it wasn't...youre just a another 325 raw lifter with a expensive piece of fabric lifting the weight for you.......hahahaha..get serious and lift the weight and leave the fabric at home.

Because raw lifting is even more boring to watch than equipt... Competition lifters wear equipment and unless you're competing theres no difference between you the metrosexual guy training curls in the squat rack. Any clown can train. Shit, even Richard Simmons trains. My raw sets start at 505 and end at 565 tomorrow. Nobody wants to watch that - they want to see the zombie shirts at the end of the workout...

People wear gear because all three of the lifts put them at a physical disadvantage and prone to injury.

Everyone is faced with the physical disadvantage, so how does that argument fly? As far as injury prevention, isn't todays advanced gear about much more than purely injury prevention.

Equipment levels the playing field for all body types. Instead of seeing only 5'5" to 5'9" guys (who have an advantage in unequipt leverage) now you can see all types...

At the highest levels, should sport really set out to handicap certain athletes? Golf is an example where at the local level handicaps are used to even the playing field. But at the pro level they're discarded.

"Everyone is faced with the physical disadvantage, so how does that argument fly?"

Some more than others - think about it...

"As far as injury prevention, isn't todays advanced gear about much more than purely injury prevention."

It was originally for injury prevention and recuperation - not for what we're using it for in modern competition.

"At the highest levels, should sport really set out to handicap certain athletes? Golf is an example where at the local level handicaps are used to even the playing field. But at the pro level they're discarded."

No - I don't want a smaller guy who can't even get his weights out of the rack by himself and who is lifting 5 or 6 inches less in range of motion having anymore compensations for his challenged height, limb length and body mass issues...

We won't even start in on formulas...

Dear Amanda,
Without getting a chance to see the comments made by Bill Kazmaier, I have little or choice, but to comment on my personal opinion of Bill and of what powerlifting is turning into. I believe in what I am saying and it is with these thoughts that I will not compete any longer, I am just lifting again for my own physical and mental fitness.

Fist, Bill Kazmaier was of the most prolific and efficient lifters ever. He is still considered, by most historians of the sport, "The World's Strongest Man." I am not very much in favor of slamming technology. I do not care about drugs(steroids, suppliments) or if they inhance or not. That is a matter of morals, choice for each individual for what competition to compete in, and about egos. But the fact that a sponsor would take away his/her endorsements and money from a meet for the style of lifting is ridiculous. The sponsor can still get the exposure to the audience. They can still obtain addresses, emails, and texting numbers to elicit and bug the contestants and audience for solicitation and sales. I would think that any company looking for dominance of a sport or any market for that matter would get as much positive exposure as possible. What has happened to the idea of using a negative and making it into an positive. Is INZER or any other company that shallow as to back down from competition. If your product is so superior, a sponsorship of a "raw meet" is ideal for demonstrating your product and its effectiveness. Mr. Inzer, set up a booth at the meet and demonstrate to the audience the benefits of your superior product. Let your voice be heard not like a child that is dissatisfied with the playing so takes his ball and goes home. Instead let it ring out with sale pitches and maybe some free T-shirts, catalogs, etc. Stop crying and lift!

As far as Bill Kazmaier goes, his opinions go a long way and they deserve the respect he has earned for promoting the sport and giving of his free time. He once came to my little meet we put on for MDA. He demonstrated lifting and was injured to boot. He signed endless autographs. He sat down to dinner with common, unknown folks from a very small town in Northern Michigan. In all this we were able to raise over $3500.00 for the Michigan affiliated MDA's. Bill also was able to instruct me in my lifting and improved my technique well enough to allow me to set two state collegate records. Now this is 25 years ago, yet I still remember it well. I have also conversed with Bill some 10 years ago and he remembered me and was cordial and polite. He did not put me off or even attempt to pull the celebrity thing on me. So my opinion of Bill is one of honesty and integrity. He is a moral man as much as any. He has tried to make a living in a career he has respected and admired all his life. Yet, because you are the best and were the best, someone is going to beat on you.

Leave Kaz alone and leave your greed and ego alone for a while. Let the sport stand on itself and let the audience choose. Your arrogant attitude about showing the folks involved in powerlifting your marketing muscle is not becoming or very professional. If you want loyalty and dominance try doing it like Christ did it. Kindness, mercy, love, and understanding. Try using charity and generousity as tools to market your product. Don't look to be the gainer as much as the giver. Your products were always very effective for me in my competitive days and I am sure they still are. Just be satisfied with what you are and what you have accomplished thus far and let God direct your ways. Be humble and God will bless you. Be arrogant and prideful and you will fall. If any of us think we are so big as to be the only game in town, just look at the Yankees. They have money, talent, and management, but they are short every year for the last 7 years and have fallen on bad press, and bad decision making. We, when our egos are so inflated, have only to walk on the beach and look out at the vastness of the ocean see how the world can swallow us up and have us never to be seen again. We humans are just a fraction of what makes this world go around. If INZER or any other manufacture thinks the world can not exist without them, just ask GM. God controls it all and the real answer is at the cross of Jesus.

Is this a sermon? Sure is! Just remember your best lift has only got to be 18". You just have to take your heart felt love and lift to your brain once in a while.

You and powerlifting is my prayers and Bill, I love you for your Christian brothership.
May the Triune God grant you all, His grace and peace always, Steve Kehrer
