Wrapping for Squats
Submitted by jon on November 7, 2005 - 11:14pm.
A good question about knee wraps over at the powerlifting forum on Bodybuilding.com for those newish to the squat.
A poster wonders if knee wraps help that much in the squat.
One member replies:
I feel a lot more secure with them, particularly as the weight gets heavier. You'll get maybe a 30 pound jump with them, but the bigger issue is that you're less prone to injury. I know my knee doesn't "click" as much when wrapped.
Everyone agrees that they'll help when squatting higher weights.
I've just started using knee wraps and they have made a big difference in the bottom position.
Yet, many suggest leaving them off unless competing or pushing max effort weight.
They give you rebound out of the hole and are to be used on max effort attempts. I.E 85% and above 1rm.
However, some dispute that they leave the lifter less prone to injury.
Myth number 2,693 about powerlifting. Knee wraps DO NOT PROTECT YOUR KNEES PEOPLE.
