Magnusson Pulls Deadlift World Record

Powerlifting circles are abuzz today with the deadlifting performance of Benni Magnusson at yesterdays WPO Semi Final event in Finland. Magnusson pulled a new world record 970 pounds on his second pull. In doing so he has, at least temporarily, unseated uber deadlifter Andy Bolton. Magnusson failed on his third attempt at 1,003 pounds. It's only a matter of time before one of these two reach that 1,000 pound mark.

A couple of the threads examine whether the token lifts Benni did in the squat and bench press diminish his accomplishment in the deadlift. I think it's a phenomenal lift by any measure, but is slightly diminished by putting up tokens in the other two lifts.
