Laura Phelps-Sweatt Puts Up New All-Time Record

(updated to add video and correct weight class.)

The world's number three ranked powerlifter and top ranked bencher, Laura Phelps-Sweatt (181), posted a new all-time record bench press yesterday at the SPF Guerrilla Squad Barbell Classic in Richmond, Kentucky. Phelps-Sweatt pressed 510 pounds. She also owns the 165 class all-time record at 505 pounds.

The press is also the third biggest by a female, regardless of weight class. She missed a 535 pound attempt that would have moved her into second, behind only Becca Swanson's 600 pounds.

Phelps-Sweatt took a token squat of 155 pounds and deadlifted 525 pounds.

Awesome Job !!

I'm not surprised by the 510 and, 535 wasn't off by much. 520-525 goes now.

As always, well done.

Everytime i see you lift i can't believe how strong you are.. My daughter says your like a the girl version of the incredible hulk... I think she is right. Cant wait to see you in the Ironhouse meet.

Why the token squat but a full deadlift? Just saving things for bench?

Awesome Job!!!!!!!

Laura had some knee pain leading up to the meet, but decided to take the token squat and emphasize on her bench and dead.

Laura, I would first like to congratulate you on the new Bench record, and second thank you for taking part in the meet. Hosting a meet is always a risky endeavour but having lifters such as yourself come to lift it made the whole process worthwhile. Thanks so much...

She has a knee injury ,bothers her more on the squat than the dead.

Wow, incredible strength. Still can't understand how there are 3 lifters ahead of her on the ranking. Please.

Does the SPF allow the elbow points to be covered with the shirt??

No they do not. And you can learly see during the setup up her elbow points are showing.

wow, just awesome lift Laura!

Thanks so much everyone!!

wow....... time for me to get back in the gym!

Now with more " shut up and lift"

WoW! Strong lift. Congrats!

Awesome pressing. Great form.

I love the face savers for the Forza bench. They should be on every pl bench. I wonder where they got them?

Great lifting Laura!

This is such a gorgeous fricken bench! Huge congrats & you obviously had more in you.

They should seriously make a DVD of Laura's benches and play them in the rules briefings at meets. So clean and solid all the way throughout the lift starting with perfect control at hand off and ending with a ultra crispy lockout. Love seeing lifts performed with this kind of accuracy!

Congrats again...mid 5's in April for sure!

Didn't see video of the last attempt, but with how easy 510 looked, I'm sure 535 will go next time. Great job.

this doesnt supprise me in the least, she has such strength, now i wanna see her get that pull to 600 I know she can do it and put up over 1800

Wow!

Unbelievably Great!

Congratulations Laura!

Just thought it odd since she's got a huge squat, was looking for clarification and got it.

Does she wear a triple ply shirt here? Great bench.

Nice Laura!

No tripple ply shirt she wears a 5 year old double ply nothing crazy. Ply doesnt really matter some people bench more in a single.
