Video of Mike Mastrean Squatting 903 at Quest

(updated to add another angle.)

Below is video of Mike Mastrean (242) squatting 903 pounds on Saturday at the NAPF Quest American Invitational at the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio. The squat matched his USAPL American Record. In addition, Mastrean upped his American Record total to 2,210 pounds.

Mastrean finished runner-up to Mike Tuchscherer for the heavyweight best lifter honors and had the second highest Wilks of the entire meet.

And people on this site say that the USAPL numbers are not impressive. Well, I believe walking 903 out and squatting it to depth at 242 is pretty dang impressive! Nice job Mike!

Nice solid squat.

Glad to see Mike fully recovered after the Raw Nationals mishap.

How does he get his suit on with those massive quads? Great squatting Mike.

Plenty more in the squat tank, I feel a bigger one coming at Nationals

Ya mike is very impresive but this meet there really isnt a ton of ppl like him. If hooper and siders and ALL of the usapl freaks showed up it would be good. When the wpo was there ppl came out of the woodwork to do it. IDK why they arnt trying to get all there best lifters to do this meet

Wade Hooper is recently coming off of a biceps tear so he didn't compete this year. He was on my squad two years ago (Midwest Region). Brian Siders typically competes in the strongman events at the Arnold so he passes on the PL stuff.

I coached the Atlantic Region last year and this year - the team Mike was on. Also on the team were guys like Dave Ricks, Steve Mann, Tony Succarotte, Doc Holloway, and Maliek Derstine. All of them are USAPL/IPF elite.

Tony Harris, Mike Tuscherer, and Jeff Douglass lifted for other teams and they too are elite. I think the USAPL fields the best product it can given the availability of the lifters. As always, injuries sideline some lifters. Other elite lifters chose to do the single lift-meets at the Arnold like the BP or DL. Some elites chose the Raw Challenge like Mike Bridges and Joe McAuliffe. Tony Reid was absent as he just did RUM3. My wife Sioux-z chose both the Raw Challenge and the DL. Some lifters couldn't make it to the Arnold due to work, family obligations, finances, etc.

Respectfully submitted,
Matt Gary

With a lineup that included, people like Mike Bridges, David Ricks, Sioux-Z Hartwig Gary, Mike Mastrean and Mike Tuscherer..... I think there was a good number of the well known top of the line USAPL lifters..... its also all about location and timing and how the meet fits in with their timeline for the year.

I was there competing in the Raw Challenge and was excited and thrilled to be on the same platform with the champions mentioned and all the other athletes who lifted !!

What a beast. Amazing to watch him squat.

Okay, I see what yall are getting at, in the interest of drawing more spectators and having a bigger show...I'll compete next year. Didn't know for sure but you guys talked me into it.

Oh my Jesus Christ! If the government needed a secret squatting machine, he'd be on their covert list. Mike, you DESTROYED that sh*t!!!!

Apparently you repaired that vastus lateralus with some carbon fiber titanium strands.

Quads like that should be stamped at equipment check.

Everyone be scared, next year he's dropping a mushroom cloud on the platform. Look out for a HUGE squat!

Putt Houston.... now with Ridiculous BCWW

Putt, whats the big deal, I drop mushroom clouds on the platform all the time.

Damn burritos and high fiber blueberry muffins.

Or were you talking about a big weight?

LOL. Your clouds are going to affect my lifting when I follow you on the platform.

Amazing squat! How is he 242? I bet his legs alone weigh that much.

I agree with Matt. 4 events in one weekend does spread the elite lifters out. It speaks alot about the talent that the USAPL really has when some top lifters are even doing pro strongman events and other sports at the arnold as well.

Look for much more competition over this weekend if and when the USAPL decides to host the national meets there.

I see a world record with this guys name on it very soon, by the way how tall is he.

With legs that big...about 4'6''

Wow that is amazing.. text book squat, plenty of depth with a massive weight!! WOW!!!!!!

Great Squat. Finally a REAL Squat to watch.

You watch that, and you just gotta shake your head... awesome!

Fuckin' beast mode.

Again, so strange how all the 'haters' and 'trolls' are absent when a squat is legit depth. No question on that one.

QFT.

that lift looked like it should of been an opener... wow.

absolutely beautiful...

That is picture perfect tecnich to squat...
Very nice to watch :)

Great squat!

beautiful depth and technique. A nice break from some of the stuff we've seen lately.

Now everyone should compare this video to the others that have been posted on various sites.

Perfect form and depth compared to the "High" and let's pass it B/S that has been ongoing for the last 6 + years.

Awesome strength! This video should be the foundation for all lifters to go by.

Mike is the MAN!

Great squat! Kinda scary watching it happen off racks. Pretty high risk to the lifter and spotters with that kind of weight.

Agreed
