Andy Bolton Challenges World's Best Deadlifters

Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about who the world's best deadlifter is at this time.

Legions of fans say that it is Latvian Konstantin Konstantinovs (275/308) who has the third highest deadlift of all-time to his name as well as the second highest raw deadlift of all-time.

Others say that it is Strongman great and occasional powerlifter, Lithuanian Zydrunas Savickas, who's recent video showed him deadlifting 947 pounds, although he used straps.

Still others continue to mention the young Icelandic puller, Benni Magnusson, who holds the second highest deadlift of all-time but has taken time off from powerlifting.

However, the man who holds the biggest deadlift in the history of the sport is Great Britain's Andy Bolton. Bolton's 1,008 pounds is a mark nobody has yet touched.

Now, Bolton has issued a challenge to all of these great deadlifters to meet him on the platform, either raw or equipped, to determine the world's best deadlifter.

Bolton: "so lets do boys i am sure there is somebody out there who would want to promote this winner take all, biggest weight wins. i have been out with a knee injury for most of end of last year but now things are getting better again. lets all go head to head early next year maybe at the arnold we can do belt only or suit and belt but no straps, soooo who is up for it. not scared of a challenge are we."

We're putting up $1,000 cash for the biggest raw deadlift in the heavyweight class + $500 cash for the most reps with 600 pounds (APT lifting straps allowed) + the biggest push/pull of the show wins a $1,200 custom competition benchpress from Nebula.

The show is April 10th at The Ronnie Coleman Classic in Dallas, Texas.

Holler at me if you wanna battle each other there,

DO IT!!!!

'biggest weight wins??'

Favour the big guys why don't u. what about the likes of belyaev pulling 370kgs @ 100kgs.

That is a great idea Mr Bolton. Where and when will you promote the contest?

This is awesome. Raw or geared (since gear doesn't mean much for deadlifts).

this would be to see who is the strongest not strongest for bodyweight

Biggest weight wins lol

Put it on a formula :)

This would be amazing!!!!

Regardless of how impressive KK's deadlift is Andy Bolton has shifted the most weight and that stands until somebody lifts more.

If you get the top 5 deadlifters in the world to show up you could charge $20 for anyone to get their pictures taken with them as a group. Probably raise enough to cover the first place money.

This challenge is an awesome idea, so I hate suggesting calling it DUM (Deadlift Unity Meet)....but someone was going to say it...

My money is on Big Z!!

Andy,
There is a Deadlift Contest every year at the Arnold sponsored by GNC.

Qualify for that next year.It is under IPF/USAPL conditions.

Brad Gillingham pulled 400 kilos last year.

Any thoughts of qualifying for next year?

Good luck

1st Bolten 2nd Big Z 3rd KK thats my prediction

You all should meet at next years Raw Unity Meet. It's raw like Andy suggested, they have a deadlift only division, it's early next year and it will be televised. What better way to determine the strongest of all time than having a Deadlift throwdown that the whole world can see.

Formula doesn't mean anything in the real world. Do you want the best pound for pound helping you lift the car off your Kid or do you want the person who can actually do it. The heaviest weight lifted = the strongest lifter.

Jeff Hackett.

Jeff, that would be epic.

Someone get Eric Talmant on this!

www.biolayne.com

I will take up on that andy with a twist.let's really get after it at with all 3 lifts raw belt only at the rum 2011 and anyone can come and play.you know me well the bigger the stage the more fired up I get
44 years young. Beau.

I'm glad Chuck Fought posted, because he definitely deserves to be a part of this competition. I do not think this competition should take place at the Arnold because Zydrunas Savickas would be incredibly fatigued after the Arnold Strongman comp.

Uhhh...that is an "invitational" event in the words of the USAPL president. There is no qualifying, that has become very clear in the last 4 months. Check out this month's Powerlifting USA. Maybe if it becomes an event that you can, in fact, qualify for then more elite lifters would be interested in the future. For now, Brad can win every year and I guess that looks good for GNC.

biggest weight wins only suits the big guys, The formula is what wins best overall and that is universally endorsed by powerlifting federations.

Obviously Andy has many things to be confident about, But unfortunately a 'biggest lift wins' will only result in people pulling the 'lbs for lbs' card against him. So if he wants to prove it, he shud be laying down the challenge and meeting the others half way.

I personally think lbs for lbs, overalls are the way to settle things?

that's what people say, but I don't think he (KK) thinks the same. what do you pull completely raw, I mean like without even a belt? that's more like KK's domain and he might have a chance. but equipped, no way, only benni could have broken the 1000 if he had kept going...

"Strognest" means heaviest weight lifted.
Fuck the formula. (And that coming from a 198er who is 6'3".)

If this is your view then go on to the strongman forum. THIS IS POWERLIFTING and WE ENDORSE THE FORMULAS IN A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT IN ORDER TO GIVE FAIR GAME!!

andy to win, even on formula a 100 k lifter would need 420 i believe ,i think coan pulled 409 at 100 it would be great to see andy bolton, frank, ano, gillingham, zavikas, konstantine, benedickt chuck fought, and even steve goggins if he is around stilland mark felix who pulled a comfortable 400 under gbpf ipf banner
all lift off other strongmen poundstone, marius hollands, etc get involved or maybe a new guy

this should be for the biggest pull period. regardless of the weightclass or ne thing. I will be around 300 andy a shw an i could careless. so make every body happen. how about all you guys bitching donate some money for prize money so that we can have a prize for biggest weight and then for best lifter by formula :)

I'll put down a few hundo of my own money if they can get KK, Andy, and some others in there and you can quote me on that. I'd happily drop some money to see it happen. Then again, most of you would just rather bitch rather than do something to make it happen

Fuck the whole formula talk I wanna see the worlds strongest deadlifter!!!

Gorilla Pit will donate a few hundred as well for this. I would love to see this happen!

Andy made the challenge so Andy's calling the shots! Simple. His location of choice, his equipment or not call, and his call about 'formulas'. He said strongest deadlifter. That's biggest pull period. The IPF or RUM didn't call Andy out so they have no say in it. It's Andy's challenge.

If asked what is the worlds strongest animal, it's an elephant. Saying an ant is strongest pound for pound or by formula still doesn't tell you anything except that an elephant is strongest. You can't say an ant is stronger by formula and expect the ant to push over a tree. If you need the tree gone, you call in the elephant! It's that simple. My pick is Andy hands down! His challenge seems to be 'if you think you can pull more, come on and bring it. Period. It should be a great crowd draw. People come to the circus to see the elephants...not the ants! LOL!

Buddy McKee

I honestly think when you get in the territory of 900 pounds, bodyweight ceases to be important. Biggest bar weight wins.

$1,000 CASH to the biggest bench in the 176 to 250.9 pound division.

$1,000 CASH to the biggest bench in the 175.9 and Under division

I will give each of the top 5 guys $500 cash to show up and deadlift at the 2011 Iron House Classic (April, 2011) - $500 just to show. Jon at PLWatch can start a poll and we can vote who the top 5 lifters should be. I will also guarantee the winner another $2500. That is $3000 to the winner. If you are the best than $3000 should just about cover the expenses of an overseas lifter.

I know this may not cover all the cost but its GUARANTEED money coming out of my pocket. With a little collusion I'm sure we can get more money and ensure the greatest deadlift competition ever.

If Andy or someone else can come up with more money at venue in England or somewhere else outside the USA I will sponsor Fought to make the trip abroad.

People who think being strong pound for pound means you are strong have one thing in common - they are all little! If a 90 pound woman deadlifts 300 and a 500 pound man deadlifts 365, the 500lb guy is stronger. He maw suck as a powerlifter, but he is stronger. Simple!

As they say: "Bring it, don't sing it."

A major + about our event is that it's coming up in just 48 days. When money meets and match ups are made 6 or more months out, all kinds of stuff can happen that messes it up. Lifters get injured training for the meet, have a bad training cycle and make up excuses, get a bigger work load at their job and can't get the time off, ect.

The only people who use the "Katterle's a douche" excuse are the imaginary 600+ raw benchers and the suited half squatters. The 800+ deadlifters are the real deal and they don't need an excuse.

And I like the concept that you are what you eat, so I'm a Phat Pussy and not a Douche.

Donnie Thompson doesn't hold a candle to Zydrunas Savickas.

The last time I checked, Donnie Thompson, the strongest man in the world, has the highest total ever, making him the strongest man in the world.

The last time I checked, Donnie Thompson's best legit raw total was under 2,200.

LOL!

Buddy McKee

can you possibly state it any better than that! that took some thought. you still got it ole fart lol.

Thanks Chip! Always nice to get the 'Hoot' seal of approval! Hope you're doing well!

YES!!!! This is awesome! I hope Benedikt Magnusson takes up the challenge. I mean all these guys are great. Bolton and KK are freaks, but I love watching Benni. Hes so entertaining. He's the lifter that inspired me to start powerlifting. Ahh I remember when I was a scrawny 185 pounds pulling 365 while listening to AC/DC TNT cause that was his theme song. Now I'm a not as scrawny 235 pulling 644 while still listening to TNT... LOL Come on Benni! I want to see you back in action!

Put Donnie and Big Z in a gear free contest. The total will be squat, deadlift, bench, and overhead press. If you want we can add more lifts. The more lifts we add the less error there will be in the total determining who the "Strongest Man in the World" is. Who wins? I don't doubt Donnie is strong, but "Strongest Man in the World" strong. Don't hold your breath. Look at Big Z's resume on Wikipedia. It's hard to believe that some people can't accept that. Just the fact that Big Z is a force in powerlifting and strongman is unbelievable in itself. He is undoubtedly the #1 strongman. And most logical powerlifters would agree that he is a top 5 powerlifter any day of the week. Just think if he did a 16 week powerlifting cycle before a meet at his current strength levels. He would have the RAW WR. He'll probably do it someday once he run's out of records to break.

Well,

I would like to throw my hat in the ring...

I have been pullin for ages, so I am sure I can pull 1000lbs

How hard could it be to pull 1000lbs of meat, sounds like an afternoon to me...

i just hope benni shows up, hes my fav deadlifter of all time, especially when you set the world record in the DL when youre 22½

you are an idiot

Andy,
There is a Deadlift Contest every year at the Arnold sponsored by GNC.

Qualify for that next year.It is under IPF/USAPL conditions.

Brad Gillingham pulled 400 kilos last year.

Any thoughts of qualifying for next year?

Good luck

Big Z would own Donnie in a raw powerlifting meet and it goes without saying would destroy him in a strongman contest, what else needs to be said? Big Z is the stronger man hands down

Don't care about the raw shit. Wear whatever the hell you want. No straps, No weight-classes, just pull the biggest deadlift and you win. Keep it simple and forget all of the political bullshit.

hey mike can you please email me at andybolton8@hotmail.co.uk
thanks

All these men should be at least invited to partake in the evernt, regardless of whether they can make it or not. Realisticslly only a handful would turn out to compete due to cost etc. And realistically it would be won by either Bolton, Magnusson, Konstantinovs, or Savickas. However, given that it would probably be under the normal rules of a powerlifting contest, the big boys may lose out trying to keep with each other by missing lifts and letting the others sneak in for the win. Whatever, let's get it on...

1) Andy Bolton
2) Benedikt Magnusson
3) Konstantin Konstantinovs
4) Garry Frank
5) Vladislav Alhazov
6) Chuck Fough
7) Mark Felix
8) Zydrunas Savickas
9) Mariusz Pudzianowski
10) Terry Hollands
11) Vladimir Kalinichenko
12) Vladimir Bondarenko
13) Tibor Meszaros
14) Mikhail Koklyaev
15) Alexander Klyushev
16) Andrey Malanichev
17) Ano Turtiainen
18) Yuriy Fedorenko
19) Derek Poundstone
20) Brian Shaw
21) Kevin Nee
22) Brad Gillingham
I'm sure there are others who I have forgotten

yeh u forgot brian siders!

ONCE AGAIN A LOT OF TALK ON THE INTERNET,BUT ANDY PUT IT BEST " PUT UP OR SHUT UP!" IT'S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG. THIS WILL DEFINITLY BE A GREAT CHALLANGE! LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.I ALSO SEE MIKE MAXWELL STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE. YEEHA!

I am willing to put this thing on. I say 10 lifters max. You can throw several other guys int hter that can pull over 800 raw like James Searcey and maybe even Mike Nease and have a solid top 10 guys that can make things spicey. If all of the people are willing to donate, then it shold be god to go. I can pull several hundred local people for the crowd on a moments notice, I have the kilo set, the venue, the judges, the warmup room, the food, the fog machine, the pro DJ, the fans that paint faces and make signs, this could be huge. I might even be willing to move it to a universal vacation estination like Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge.

Biggest weight wins lol

Put it on a formula :)

Formula doesn't mean anything in the real world. Do you want the best pound for pound helping you lift the car off your Kid or do you want the person who can actually do it. The heaviest weight lifted = the strongest lifter.

Jeff Hackett.

If this is your view then go on to the strongman forum. THIS IS POWERLIFTING and WE ENDORSE THE FORMULAS IN A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT IN ORDER TO GIVE FAIR GAME!!

Does the one handed lifter get to compete by doubling his deadlift?
The truth is "the world is not fair."

Formula is what babies drink.
