Brian Schwab Pulls Out of RUM

Brian Schwab has made the decision to pull out of the 2010 Raw Unity Meet which is being held January 30-31 in Tampa, Florida. Instead, Schwab will compete in the IPA Lexen Extreme Pro-Am on February 6-7 in Columbus, Ohio.

Says Schwab on his decision: "If I could do both I would, but they're obviously too close together and I couldn't afford it anyway."

The Pro-Am is being held the same weekend as the APF Best of the Best in the Midwest in Lenexa, Kansas. The two meets will feature some of the best multi ply lifters in the nation. In addition to Schwab, Donnie Thompson, Chuck Vogelpohl, Chuck Fought, Nate Strong and Matt Wenning are slated to go at the Pro-Am.

The Best of the Best in the Midwest will play host to Matt Kroczaleski, Brian Carroll, Al Caslow, Michael Cartinian, Jim Grandick and Shawn Frankl.

Schwab competed in the Raw Unity Meet this year and his 1,377 pound total at 148 was good for the 43rd ranking in America on the Power Rankings.

Brian, We are going to miss you at RUM. You are a pleasure to watch lift. You lightwieghts and the crazy weights you lift are inspiring to all. Good luck in your meet.

I was definitely looking forward to seeing Schwab lift, but it's understandable why he can't do both. I can't wait to see some of the head-to-head match-ups, Conyers and Caslow is going to be great, my two all-time favorites at 165. Also, watching Kellum lift raw always leaves me shaking my head in disbelief.

There are 4-5 guys in the lightweight division at Raw Unity that could beat Schwab. In turn, Schwab could beat some of the best lightweights out there and really show where he stands. Why he is choosing to go to a meet that has no competition is beyond me.

Sure, he can go up there and total 2200 or something; but I would rather see him go head to head with a bunch of lifters that are really good.

Good luck either way Brian. Just think that RUM is where its at; and the other meet would just me more of the same.

he said in the elite log that hes bombed two meets in a row and needs to not bomb one.

.....Boy wait till he finds out that RUM will be televised on FOX Sports ! Instead he`s chosen to showcase his extrodinary talents in front of maybe a hundred people , who , for the most part are only there because their son, nephew , cousin or boyfriend is in the meet ....plus, I would think he would have less of a chance of bombing in the raw contest as he won`t have multi-ply equipment dictating his range of motion .....

This message is for Brian Schwab.

I am a lifter that will be there at 165 for the RUM and I am very disappointed in your decision to not show. It is clear that YOUR real competition will be at RUM and not the Lexen Extreme. Who at the Pro-Am can touch you?

You have proved yourself to be a master of multi-ply and have shown your ability to crossover by your raw performance earlier this year. Now if you want to continue your dominance of this sport than your next move would be to come to Florida for the RUM and beat me and the others at 165. I'll be waiting.

Wow. Can a lifter choose his own meet without cathing BS on here? Maybe he doesn't care that it's televised. Maybe he has a sponsor that would rather he do a geared meet. Or just maybe, the pro/am is the meet he wants to do and the geared total is his primary goal.

@AdamDriggers

I agree....let the man compete where he wants too. He pays his own expenses, so he can go where he wants.

If people want to compete against him that much....they know where to find him. They can compete at the Lexen pro am

Mr. Waldron,

He lives in Orlando, Florida, hence Orlando Barbell, so I don't think the trip over would be too much trouble for him.

Would sponsors rather him lift infront of nobody, or would they see theyre names on tv? "But he cant wear gear from his sponsor there". No not muliply, but metal has singlet with logos and socks with logos and i am pretty sure the EFS logo could be printed on theyre too. That would get them way more exposure then competing infront of 100people who only care about the one persone they are there to watch.

I apologize if i come off as a tard. But giving up exposure on TV ? dude...

Are you bonkers? Would sponsors rather him lift infront of nobody, or would they see theyre names on fucking tv? "But he cant wear gear from his sponsor there". Yeah...if you saw a guy lifting raw in a Metal singlet you will buy Metal? I hope youre not working in sales...

Lexen pro-am is a great show and i'm glad that he chose this one. Brian is one of the great in multi-ply...why should he prove that is great raw too?

Mister Waldron, why don't you buy some gear and go to lexen if you want it that bad?

The raw people are so haters!!

Schwab has stated very clearly that he wants to finish a meet and that his goals don't involve the RUM.

I hope you are not working in sales because who would buy metal when almost nobody will get to see him lift and therefore not know about metal.

Contra--> TV --_> Gymlifter see's the logo, checks out the website and buys some wristwraps and squatshoes.

We respect Brian's decision to follow his goals-whatever they may be.

Good Luck Brian.

wait, when and where will the RUM be televised?

I'm sorry but I to would like to know where it is stated that it will be on TV. I did not see it posted on the RUM site.

It will be on fox sports net

I think Brian should do whatever he feels is right for him. Would have loved to seen him at RUM, he is a great lifter and would have had some great competition. But he knows himself best and it's his right to choose what he wants to do.

www.biolayne.com

The RUM III will be televised on Fox sports' Brawl Call television show Hosted by Jay Adams which is currently shown in over 24 million homes nation wide. This deal has just been signed. As for Brian, He is a good lifter and can compete with anyone under any circumstances he proved that this past january. I, just as WC and many others would love to compete against him raw, but if he's got bigger fish to fry than good luck. Some guys just have different goals...

This is seriously amazing to me that so many people are concerned about what meet I compete in. I competed in the Raw Unity Meet last year against some great lifters and place second in the lightweights with only a few weeks of raw training. If someone really wanted to compete against me raw, they had an opportunity to then. I'd like to think that I helped pave the way for the numerous multi-ply lifters that have opted to compete in it this year. Eric is a great promoter and I'm sure the Raw Unity Meet will continue to grow from here. If it has television coverage this year, I would imagine it will have the same, if not more, next year. I will take it into consideration then.

I've been in this sport a long time. I was in the first WPO meet, as well as the first Bench America, both of which were shown on Fox Sports. I'm not in this sport for fame. I'm in it because it drives me to succeed. It allows me to set a goal and strive to accomplish it. It kills me that I bombed in the last two meets I've competed in, and until I accomplish what I set out to, I have a hard time changing my goal.

Good luck to all of you, whatever your goals may be.

stop hating guys. he can go RUM the following year and have a longer time focusing on raw...

Maybe we should just make it a new powerlifting troll rule that lifters like Brian need to submit a list of meets he would like to compete in and we will take a vote. When we have decided what meet we would like Brian to compete in he can then thank us for being such awesome advisers because we as trolls really know what is important to him. Oh and then we can still whine about what meets he didn't compete in that a certain few of us would have liked to see him in. Also we will need some trolls to come in and say they could taken him if they had the chance to compete against him in the meet that wasn't chosen. Thanks, that is all.

Since when did the Pro-Am have no competition???

Brian and Eric Talmid are the only two who's opinions or thoughts matter here and they've both spoken very clearly. Respect it and go on.

This is great! LMAO!!!!

I can't believe anyone would criticize Brian for not lifting at the RUM.. The RUM is a great meet and there may be good competition in their lightweight division, but who seriously could beat Brian raw. Didn't he squat and pull in the mid 500's last year and I am sure he is good for 365 raw bench. Noone lifting at this meet at 148 could touch these lifts.

Umm...no.

He totaled 1377 last year. He would be a 165'er this year and would probably be fighting to get in the top 3 in that weight class. Conyers will probably win the 165's, and then there are 3 other guys that can do 1400+.

Brian would have his work cut out for him.
