Aaron Anderton Pushes & Pulls Big at Pride Raw Nats

Aaron Anderton (shw) hit a big raw bench press and deadlift on Saturday at the Pride Raw Nationals in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Anderton pressed 540 and deadlifted 760 pounds. The press ranks him eighth and the pull third on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings.

Anderton opened with a 500 pound bench press, went to 520 on his second, before hitting 540. He also hit deadlifts of 700 and 730 pounds. Anderton missed a fourth attempt with 800 pounds.

Charlie Farmer has uploaded video of Anderton's deadlifts:

Great lift Aaron, you have come a long way

Very impressive huge man, I'm bummed because I was the head judge for the bench and was not able to video his bench, He opened with 500 and threw it up like it was just the bar,He then went on to do 520 and his last lift with 540 I yelled press and he held it for an extra second.I was shocked he did'nt take a fourth attempt for a pr.I even said after he threw up 540, why don't you put some weight on the bar.I don't know what he could have done but relistically he had at least another 30lbs.He said he did'nt want to risk injury and he was hoping to have a pr on the deadlift.Anyway good Job huge man, you are a beast..

Aaron Anderton can generate some serious brute force. Years ago the NSCA's annual convention was in Spokane, Washington (can't recall if that was 2000 or 2001.) Bill Kazmaier was one of the three exhibition lifters who got together to put on a strength seminar (Bill Gillespie was another one and I can't recall the name of the 3rd lifter.)

Kaz had some pro strongman rebar and part of his show was doing a bar bending demonstration. He bent the first piece which was a narrower diameter. After he bent it he called out a challenge to the audience to see if anyone wanted to give it a try. Anderton picked up the gauntlet and bent the bar in the same manner that Kazmaier did it.

That inspired Bill to break out a bigger bar and to inform the audience that this one was the deal breaker. He further stated that most strongmen on the circuit would have a tough time bending this bar into a U. Kaz went to work on the bar and bend it a good deal of the way. He then handed a piece to Aaron and Anderton not only bent the bar, but he bent it to a larger degree than Bill did!

After the seminar, Kazmaier proclaimed that he wasn't gonna be outdone and he worked on the bar some more until he'd tied up with Aaron but that didn't change the fact that Anderton stayed with Kaz in one of the 1970s era WSM events! (Yes I know that Kazmaier wasn't in his prime in 2001 but it's still very impressive IMO.)

Stay Strong,
Sean

Thanks guys. I actually only took two attempts on the Bench. I felt two slight pops (one in each pec)at the bottom with 540, so even though the lift was easy, I didn't want to risk tearing my pecs for another 30 pounds. I didn't expect too much at this meet since I had only been back training for a few months and I hadn't competed since April 2007, but it turned out pretty well.

Eric, I would love to do the Unity meet but I just cant afford to travel to Florida from Spokane, Washington right now.
