Bands - How Often And Which Lifts?
Submitted by jon on March 15, 2006 - 8:46am.
A Power and Bulk poster wants to incorporate bands into his workouts and asks others what lifts they use them on and how often they use them.
Replies indicate many uses for the bands:
I use bands on overhead pressing primarily, but the OL lifter I train uses them on drop snatches, rack jerks, overhead pressing, and pulls. Check out the Joe Average website, it's all about lifting with bands.
you could reverse band deadlift, reverse band bench, band bench, band squats....the possibilities are endless.
I really like using band tension for tricep work, and for upper back work with pull-aparts.
I used to use them a lot w. BP and SQ, but I decided I was too weak for that....
Now I primarily use them for leg curls, triceps, and a modified CV deadlift.
Reverse band deads, bench press w/ bands, light assistance work and stretching with just the bands.
Bands are fun, but hugely overrated, and I think should stay the hell away from peoples squat for the most part.
I have used bands once a week almost every week for a few years. I have taken occassion breaks not because I needed to, just because I got away from the Westside stuff for a little while.
I didn't expect them to have the resistance that they did. On top of that, you have to really lock your form down, as they want to go all over the place.
I like using them on squats for months at time.
I plan on using them on speed dead lift, too.
I use doubled lights on DE Squats, doubled averages on deads and doubled minis, lights & averages on bench.
I used them on overhead and tricep work sometimes.
They are not a regular part of my workouts.
Once a month on ME Squat day - alternating between tying them at the top and bottom - usually using Blues in both cases.
Benching? Usually tie the off at the top of the power rack - once every other month on ME Bench day - first maxing raw, then with the shirt. Using the Blues.
DLing? maybe once every other month, usually the blues
Nice to add for variety.
Also, throw a purple band around your back - held by each hand, and do DB presses in a bench. Again, not a regular diet, but for diversion.
as well as pressing, squatting
i like 'em for
dumbell pullovers
straight-arm pulldowns
im going to try em for twists
