Mark Gregory Squats British Junior Record
Submitted by Staff on November 24, 2009 - 9:20am.
Competing on Saturday at the GBPF British University and College Powerlifting Championship in Bournemouth, England instead of the IPF Powerlifting Worlds in India due to the team's mixup with Visas, England's Mark Gregory (220) posted a 1,859 pound (843.5kg) total that included a British Junior Record squat of 751 pounds (341kg).
Representing Derby University, Gregory opened at 683 pounds (310kg) on the squat, then missed 716 pounds (325kg) on depth, before taking his record setting squat. The record that previously was held by Sam Watt had stood for 16 years.
Gregory then pressed 485 pounds (220kg) and 507 pounds (230kg) on the bench, before trying to increase his own British record with a 529 pound (240kg) lift, which he narrowly missed.
In the deadlift, Gregory was successful on 551 pounds (250kg) and 600 pounds (272.5kg), and attempted 676 pounds (307kg) to break the British Junior total record of 1,934 pounds (877.5kg) held by former World Champion, Brian Reynolds, but was unable to get it past his knees.
