WPF Institutes Start, Press & Rack Commands

On November 10, at its 2009 World Congress Meeting in Las Vegas, the WPF approved the U.S. proposal to add a start command to the existing commands of press and rack for the bench press. The change makes it much easier to administer USPF meets, which have a start and rack command. Formerly, lifters attempting world records would receive a second set of commands which meant they might not be in compliance with USPF rules.

just to be clear....

is it

START
PRESS
RACK

3 commands?

thank you...

Putt Houston.... now with Ridiculous BCWW

Yes Putt.

At the USPF meets I've been to they use a start, press and rack command, but the rulebook says just a start and rack. Is that normal? Is it up to the judges/meet director what to use?

Its not normal. I wasn't following normal USPF commands at the time. It was a decision I made because of the use of two sets of commands at Nationals in 2008 in RI. It met the intent of pausing the bar but it was not following exact USPF rules. I'll take the hit on that.
Now we will all be on the same page.

Thanks for the info Steve. No big deal, just trying to keep up with all the different sets of rules.

Actually, we should be thanking you Steve. Since we in CA are used to all 3 commands, there is no issue for us to "adjust." It's business as usual.

I like the new rule glad it is there. And Steve thanks for makeing us in Ca. do it all this time.
