WPF Ditches Legged Briefs

Just a year after adopting the use of legged briefs, the WPF voted them out at its 2009 World Congress Meeting which was held on November 10 in conjunction with the World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada. The federation will still allow briefs without legs.

The rule change brings the WPF inline with its American affiliate, the USPF.

I like this move... would like to see briefs gone altogether, but at least this brings us back closer to the true definition of "single-ply". Those legless briefs really do not offer much support, and quite frankly, they are not worth the pain that they inflict on the wearer, LMAO. Kudos to the WPF for making this vote, and let's see briefs gone altogether in the future.

obviously vendors who sell them won't be pleased - but also lifters who may have bought them over the past year for that federation.

getting rid of the briefs altogether would have been a better move, it would have returned them to single ply.

How do you get that getting rid of briefs altogether would return them to single ply? Grooved briefs give you 5 lbs maybe! and the WPF still has double ply division!

WPF has no double ply division. The uspf has one with GPC.
DONT think the wpf is the uspf, there is a big difference.

Are the leggless briefs still just the panty style or can the come up on the waist, just with no legs?

if the grooved briefs only give you 5 lbs, then why wear them?

legless briefs.... should have just manned up and said no briefs and avoid all this discussion.

briefs that have no legs and can't come high enough to be locked into your belt might as well just be called ball crushers because thats all they are doing. I know!

Barely anyone does. Seriously I bet Inzer could tell you who bought the briefs this year.

Banning the briefs with legs (the bottom half of the squat suit) is a great move on the part of the WPF. Now at least single ply is back to really being single ply in this federation, for whatever that's worth.

Glenn- briefs can come up to the belly button, and allowing now briefs period was on the table at one point.

Thanks Tim for the update, I will now be ready for january!

In my opinion, This is why the WPF and USPF will never grow and become as great as the AWPC/AAPF, NASA, and AAU!!!!!!!!!!!!

They did 3 weeks before the meet in Vegas last week!

Ugg,

you are mistaken. The meet held in Vegas before the Worlds was the Olympia.

The Olympia had D2 (Double-Ply). It was not a WPF meet, it was a WPF QUALIFYER.

The legless groove briefs have been around the USPF for over 20 years. Some lifters like them because it allows them to get their suit over the butt and hips. Support is very limited though.

Anytime Glenn.

The USPF has always been "Legless Brief's"...The WPF has now decided to adopt the USPF Standard. Slowly we are coming into agreement with each other but, there are still a number of gear issues that remain. They are, however, not significantly helpful towards a bigger total...(Elbow Sleeves)(Shin Guards, etc.)

"USPF....the Legend continues......"

The Olympia D2 was not a qualifier for the WPF the D1 meet was. So you both are wrong =)

I would like to take briefs out all together with the monolift. Lets do single ply and walk out squats. In Iceland we have the choice WPF or IPF,,, So i guess you want to lift for fun.. .Thanks alot to Erik for a good fight with regards from Iceland ,,

Valdimar, nice to hear that we share similar hopes for the WPF. It was a pleasure to compete against you, and I know that the battle for 3rd place could have gone either way. I want to thank you for making the trip, and I look forward to returning the favor should Iceland host the WPF World Championships in the future.

Anon #2: Anon #1 was just stating that the USPF has a D2 session that lifted at the Olympia. They also had the D1 session competing there which was a WPF Qualifier.

Steve's right... they crush your balls and they help the suit go over the hips more easily. Then when you take them off the rope burns around your legs high near the tender crotch really suck.

good to see all the squat and total records that were broken with legged briefs will now need to be beaten by legless ones, and then when they ditch those they can be beaten by truely single ply. then when it goes raw the same can happen.

I respect the lifters that don't agree with the Monolift, and I agree that Squats records done with Monolift should not break one set with a walk out Squat! But I personaly love using the Monolift!
