The Supers at IPF Worlds

The IPF has uploaded video of the final weight class, the superheavyweights, to compete at the 2009 Powerlifting World Championships in New Dehli, Inda. Great Britain's Dean Bowring and Russia's Oleg Gagin finished in a dead heat for the gold. By virtue of weighing 74 pounds less, Bowring earned the victory. The Czech Republic's Milan Spingl filled out the podium. Polish Junior Daniel Grabowski earned fourth. Iceland's Audunn Jonsson was fifth. Norway's Olaf Dahl placed sixth. Finland's Kenneth Sandvik was seventh. American Patrick Anderson was eighth.

Look who's spotting?

WOW, that is a great act of sportsmanship to have a World Champ back spotting!!!

The spotters are wearing sandals!!!

Well Done to Dean Bowring! The first British IPF SHW Champion!

Congrats to Dean!

The spotters are Maxim Barkhatov , Viktor Naleykin and Konstantin Lebedko .I don't think there is anyone who doesn't know who they are :) ! Even with sandals i think they can do much more to help the lifters , than the indian boys which the organisers put on the stage . That's so silly , the indians can't find 5 strong, smart and brave guys to secure the lifters , but IPF gave them the oportunity to organize World championships !

I didn't know Olaf Dahl's "cultural music" was 'the ecstasy of gold' by Ennio Morricone (used in the famous Clint Eastwood flick 'The Good, The Bad and the Ugly') ^_~

I'm a bit surprised the commentators didn't pick up on that

Seems like there is no good deadlifters in the 125 and 125+ classes today, except Gillingham..very few over 350kg deads nowdays.

You do have a point. I think this is because many of the good deadlifters at 125+ are now doing Strongman. Good deadlifters are usually the taller guys in these weight classes and being over 300lbs, over 6'2" and with a big deadlift is a great start for Strongman!

Well there are some other great pullers like Tuchscherer, Oleksandr and some others that chose to not lift at this event. I agree though, the deadlifts were nothing to pee your pants over.

Audunn Jonssons best deadlift is 410 kg, and highest total 1132,5, if im not mistaken.

The most he's pulled at a IPF Worlds is 372.5kg and 1040kg total I think and the last time he lifted he pulled 365kg and tested positive

i see it just like that! great sportsmanship! with those guys you are safe

When you are lifting that type of weights you need exactly that type of guys to watch over you, because one little mistake can cost you the health or even your live . I think that the lifters must very thankful on these guys !

How come some US lifters chose not to go?

They were too busy trying to hammer out the last details of those multi-million dollar endorsement contracts that powerlifting in the U.S has to offer ?

there are no big deadlifts? look at it in a different light, their deads dont compare to their squat and benches because of today s equipment just like other feds... its the same everywhere. also if you compete in a tested fed and you use that is pathetic and obviously dont feel you can compete with those who choose to use

Victor squats 903 plus no belt ... right about 3:37

I think Dean's best deadlift in competition in 365 and I believe he is capable of more than that. He needed 355 to win, so that's what he took. That's good lifting!

His best squat in competition is 410, but when you look at the fact he is built like a cube and considering his stubby little arms, it's not surprising his squat is bigger than his pull.

I believe his best raw bench is around 250kg also. You could argue that he is not a good lifter as he hasn't "mastered" his kit - lol!
