Liz Willett Accepts Position with AAU

Former IPF world competitor Liz Willett has accepted the position of AAU Powerlifting Vice Chairman for the Pacific North West and Alaska subject to final AAU approval. Approval is expected this week.

AAU Powerlifting Vice Chair Western Region, Martin Drake, "Liz is former IPF World competitor and one of the true icons in powerlifting. She and her fiancee have great plans to help us grow, not only in Washington State, but in the region. She is currently recovering after back surgery, but is hoping to attend the AAU Worlds in Laughlin as a referee and Vice Chairman. Liz has a great team with Adam Green in Washington and Tom Pehrus in Alaska as District directors."

The AAU brought Matt McCase on board last week as West Virginia District Director and in recent weeks have signed on over a dozen new district directors.

interesting. looks like the AAU is finally ready to step its game up. would be nice to have another tested alternative to usapl

This is Great news--Count me in to be at those contests !!
Liz is a terrific person and great lifter...

AAU will thrive in the Northwest with her at the helm...Congratulations !!

Liz received unanimous approval by the board. She and 10 of the 13 new Disrict Directors will be in Laughlin Nevada at the AAU World BP,DL,PP and International PL; to help plan our continued growth. Since her appointment, we have been flooded with people reminding us just how wonderful and special she is. We are truely blessed to have her on board. We have not had a stong presence in this area in the past, and are sure that this will change.

Sorry I forgot where to log in at. the above post was from me.

Between the AAU and the USAPL there will now be a lot of meets that offer sanctioned, drug tested, raw divisions. Hopefully the AAU sets up some Oregon meets too as I think almost all of the USAPL's are up in Washington. Liz is a very nice lady and she really knows the sport. I got the chance to MC a USAPL Oregon State meet that she was a part of and it was a good competition with a wild after party (from my very blurry recollections.)

That's great news that the AAU's coming back to the NW !

Stay Strong,

Good Morning! Wow its been a long time since my name has been on a discussion board. :-) Wanted to say thank you for all the warm welcomes!
Am working on a facebook page like Martin's where we can discuss upcoming meets, issues, post meet results etc.
The AAU insurance for lifters is amazing and it covers lifting period. It is and is going to be an amazing avenue for growth in the AAU and powerlifting period!
Am excited to be asked to be a part of our wonderful sport! Happy weekend! Liz

Liz Willett, Welcome to AAU PL board it will be great to have you!

P.S. Not a Willett anymore, Storm is my maiden, Zilla how are you? will send an email tonight

Congrats to you Liz. Glad you are going to be coming to Alaska and have this area to take care of. I will bust out the coffee and we can have a long visit. It is good to see you back out there with powerlifting. I miss seeing you and visiting with you. Hope you are on the mend after the surgery. Love ya gal, Harriet

Harriet Make sure you keep Liz from freezing in AK. Her District Director in AK is Tom Pehrson.
We are filling out our map/plan.
still need District Directors in Oregon, Louisianna, Missiouri and Mississippi. Our Director in Colorado wants to focus more on the lifting side, so we also will need help there.
Finalizing a Dist Dir for MN. Hawaii D.D will be on board in Feb.
In the last mont or so wehave now the following new and exciting additions.
OH Jim Warner, WV Matt Mc Case (will hold meets across various areas) TX (Dallas area) Brian Dobson new meet in April, NJ Benny Litowski (meets on the books already) NC Bill Croft, AL.TN Phil Johnson, WI Guy Powell, No Cal Phil Crawford, AK Tom Pehrson, WA Adam Green, AZ Josh Harrison meet in April in PHX, Nevada Tony Rodriquez meet in March in Vegas, Cent Ca Henry Fultz, IN Martin Montgomery

The insurance Liz spoke of is huge. For adult lifters and refs, they can get accidental medical ("AB") coverage for any meet, in any org if they have an AAU PL "AB" card. Cost is $5 additional. For kids the cost is only $2 additional. AND THEY ARE COVERED FOR ANY ORGANIZED SPORT, SUCH AS H.S SPORTS, PARKS AND RECREATION ETC.
ALL DRUG FREE POWERLIFTERS SHOULD GET AN AAU PL "AB" CARD. All youth athletes should as well.

SWEET! I'd love to compete more than the two times a year that I can up here with the USAPL(don't get me wrong, I love the USAPL).

I vote that all regional meets be held in Alaska, since everyone would love to visit here. lol..

actually certain parts of the year, we would all love to visit. But in DECMBER, no !!!!!!! our District Director is in Juneau

who is the new DD for Hawaii?

on board after 2/1/2010
meet planned for Sept

LIZ STORM! Powerlifting Super Woman! (Look for the new comic book and collectible action figure to hit shelves this winter.)

I'm doing great and thanks for asking. Happy to hear that you're getting in with the AAU and looking to run some meets here in the NW. We've got some good venue options in Portland and on the Oregon Coast so I'll watch for your email. Classic lifting is what my company promotes (wraps n' belt and untested) but I'm personally competing in raw and drug tested divisions so I'll plan on lifting in OR or WA when you announce your first promotion.

lol.. how bout July?

Will the AAU ever have 2or 3 ply devisons if not why not? I am drug free and have always wanted to comepet AAU.I will only compet 2 or 3 ply.I know that there are more of us out there that would join if you were to offer that. At least think about it.

Although we have offered single ply and raw since day one of our 1994 return, approx. 70% of our lifters choose raw. We have seen very limited interest thus far in lifters wanting to try multi-ply if we offered same.

Thats to bad

Hey Liz,

I've got a website still but I'm not yet on Face Book. If you want to start brain storming with me on an Oregon meet, you can send me an email and I'll quickly write ya back.

We've got access to a resort out on the Oregon Coast too and they've got a great ballroom and they're only 2 hours outside of Portland so it's a good venue to attract lifters in this state.

Yeah, AAU lifters seem more interested in showcasing their own physical strength rather than their mastery of rebound garmets. People have to get strong on their own to win open divisions in that federation. I'm glad the AAU's getting active with powerlifting in the NW again.
