Here's a better clip of Quatto coming out of his belly during the bench. Things that make me go hmmmm:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAPS1OZqv3s

He should be dq'd from this meet. What an embarrassment. Is this something that would get you kicked out of Westside?

a beast!!! well done Dave
21 years old..damn

how freakin obvious I hope Louie does somethin bout this crap

LOL. Cuato was a nice touch. i don't mean to be "that guy" but the last bench really got 3 lights? looked like a pretty uneven extension.

nevermind it looks better from the front...but the belly thing is lulz

That is fucked up. If SPF has any integrity they would disqualify his lifts. That is so obvious.

Look at this picture and this video. What is under his shirt?

Ridiculous.

Another picture, right when he touched:

I think we have a second shooter on the grassy knoll. I'm all for using every advantage to win, but this is right up there with the dumb fuck that used oil on the bar in Detroit a few years back.

This just took all credability away from Hoff and the Pro am!

How did the head judge not see that? It is so obvious there is a foreign object under his shirt.

NOW. THAT IS BS..Now we have lifters putting things under their shirts. You can clearly see something is under his singlet or shirt.

What a disgrace. What happened to honor? Why would his handlers ever let something like this happen. They are just as much at fault. Someone else had to know and let it happen. Unreal.

LOL! This is HILARIOUS. I'd look Jesse to comment on this.

Stuff like this puts the credibility of the entire meet and every lift involved in question.

Uhm, that someone else would be Phil Harrington

If people would take a second to really think about this whole shirt thing they would realize that singlets fit tight so if you put a bench shirt on and losen it out of your belt a little it is going to cause it to look like there might be something pudging out. The fact is Hoff has benched 825 before he's not the type to pull something like this. Also, this is one of the most closely judged meets of the year, the judges wouldn't let ANYONE get away with something like that. Just give Dave credit he's 21 years old and a freaking awesome lifter. Great lifts Hoff!

Something "pudging out" the size of a 1 board? He touches to whatever it is.

Give me a break.

Uhm, yeah OK

And he didn't inhale. And he didn't have sexual relations with that woman.

Oh right.. yeah.. it's just his bench shirt.

Come on dude. Look at the pictures.

A bench shirt's not going to do that when you have it pulled down. What's the point of having a belt hold it down if it's going to bunch up above it? Nice try but nothing will save Hoff unless he mans up and admits he fucked up.

That is deplorable!

I'm watching the high squats and benches not locked out from this meet and accepting it for what it is, but that is the worst thing I've ever seen in lifting.

Yes and you are the biggest asshole in history, so what is your point.

I'm sure it is just his unique rib structure. NOT! That looks like a good 2" of hard foam stuck in his shirt. Yes he is incredibly strong and yes he is young. BUT STICK WITH THE F***ING RULES!

the bench is questionable but the one lift does not mean the spf or pro am was run bad judges are human but they were consistant and judgeing was good squats were all ligit i hope he did not cheat he has hit ligit benches this high in the past if there is proof they should do something about

This is just crap for the entire sport of multiply powerlifting. Hoff should have the guts to come out and admit he made a mistake. You're 21 years old and could have a great career ahead of you. I could still respect a guy who would admit his mistakes. You don't, you just tarnished your credibility and good luck getting that back. Louie shouldn't tolerate this crap. What a huge disappointment.

He cost Matt Wenning 500 bucks and second place. Is this what Westside has come to? I can't believe Louie would allow something like this. I'm totally blown away. I've always looked up to Westside; now I'm a little thrown back. Bad judgement call.

I took the video down, I hope all you assholes are happy.

Dave has done 820 before, not too long ago, and I can tell you because I was standing two fucking feet from the guy- there was nothing in his shirt. Nothing fell out, no one caught him, so all of you can shut the Hell up.

If you had watched the first two benches, you'd notice it was the same way... but guess what? YOU CAN'T NOW BECAUSE YOU'VE RUINED IT ALL FOR EVERYONE.

It's jealous assholes like you that give the sport a bad name, not Dave.

wow now we are hiding things... the pics are out and saved and can never be hidden hoff and his joke of a crew should be ashamed... there is no way you can possibly think that there is not something under his shirt... there is definitely a rectangular 1-3 in thick 'something' showing you can see the edges!

you are just as bad now trying to hide this its a sad day indeed

It's amazing what you will believe man. It really is. Having 6-8 inches of whatever it is in your shirt, intentional or not, is not fair. Period.

It doesn't matter what he's done before. It matters what he did that day. And that day, he touched the weights to something that is not fair.. be it a scruffed up bench shirt or an actual object placed inside the shirt.

How is it fair in your eyes? Honest question?

Just because someone benched a certain number in a previous meet doesn't mean he will do it this time.

So I ask again, how is it fair that someone has 6-8 inches of range of motion taken away (and that it's not his own body that produces it like a big belly)?

Come the fuck on. Wake up.

If this is just some birth defect or strange injury causing that bulge: leave the guy alone.

If it isn't, then I wouldn't shed a tear if the pathetic cheater never lifted again.

Where were the judges? If I saw something like that, I'd check it out right after the lift. (not beforehand; in the interest of the lifter I wouldn't want to get him out of the zone before a big lift)

Damn, this "reach to the bar" thing is on a whole new level...lmfao

wtf did he get implanted by a Xenomorph???

wow!!!!!!

i'd like to see his dumbass try to refute this. not going to happen.

the guy's a dipshit, trying to hide things with camera angles and now with taking down videos. christ dude why can't you get off these lifters nuts and admit that the judging was a joke if they're letting shit like this slide.

I can say for fact, that louie or anyone else had no clue hoff did that. Im sure phil had a lot to do with that, which doesn't take away that hoff didn't have to do that. This is not how westside is and its very upsetting seeing this. If hoff was a man, he would man up to it, apologize to everyone, withdraw himself from everything he did that day and state why he did it. Even though this has happend, it doesn't take away what a great meet it was, how well it was ran and the spf doing a great job. But one question that hasn't been answered. Why didn't any judge say 1 thing about this?

I guess Tuesday, really is Wednesday, in the SPF.

I don't know if any other Referees are going to chime in, but if I was the Head Referee, he would never have made it as far as his handoff guy giving him the Bar. That is, I would have demanded an equipment check before he was allowed to begin the Lift.

This is so blatantly obvious, there is no need to even debate it.

We have to remember, of course, that this is also from a Federation where you are not allowed to film the Squat from the side.

The lack of credibility here is very certain. I seriously hope that, going forward, Jon isn't going to include SPF Lifters in his National Rankings. If he does, then I guess, just draw a line through those names, and count down from the top for yourself.

How could Louie not know? Hoff is one of his guys and he is their coach. Was Louie not in the warm up room with him? On the platform when he was lifting? If he wasn't then where was he? Even if he was sitting in the front row he would have seen this. Louie has been around for ever and notices every detail. So he either knew and didn't say anything or he wasn't around to help one of his own lifters. Either way does not look good for WSBB.

Whats sad is the head judge is an IPF judge & missed this

Louie was not in the warm up room and was sittn in the front row. But sittn in the front row really didn't do u any good to see what was going on cause all the people surrounding the platform. Even though hoff is westside, louie wouldn't let that crap go.

The squat is not allowed to be filmed from the side becuase of exactly what is going on here.... the internet judging that goes nuts and now won't quit going nuts.

I am an SPF lifter. It really pains me to see this type of controversy in the SPF. The federation has been nothing but great the entire time I've lifted in it, from Jesse, to the judges, to the lifters, and because of that, I will continue to be an SPF lifter.

I think I've watched every online angle available of this--including the ones that have been yanked. I sure didn't notice it until someone puts up that still image---and I freeze framed the videos to watch where and how Hoff touched. I'd like to know what the incongruency in the still image is too. It almost looks like a little video editing was done to that original, but I'm not the one to make that judgement.

The thing I have to ask is if there was something in his shirt, don't you all think you would have seen it in the video above when he gets up from the bench, expecially the way he jumps up and walks away with his arms back? You've got a straight on view of his chest and with it turned to the side at the 12, 13, and 14 second points. It doesn't look to me like there is anything under his shirt.

The online bitching needs to quit. The judges passed this lift. Hoff and Harrington both need to be under a microscope the next meet they are at. If it means inspecting gear after the lift, then so be it. The bitching does nothing but tear the sport apart.

JK dont worry about thing Job has to say, he is with NASA and we all know why he is jealous.

I find it funny that Phil even points at the uneven extension and even demos it for the judges.

So I guess Jon should also exclude lifters that lift in any federation that have had some internet troll second guess a judge's call? I guess that would cut down on one of two things: either there would be no names left to list on national rankings, or people will quit taking pictures and videos at meets.

Ya, they should stop allowing videos to be taken at meets. That way lifters can do what htey must to win rather than be under the scrutiny of their peers

JC Carter wrote:

Don't forget the peers who don't compete, have never competed, and probably never will compete, or have never judged and will never be a judge, but can post their worldly opinions online. Those are the important ones. They always say the most.

This was posted earlier and got taken down for some reason. But the word is Dave threw Phil under the bus by telling Louie that Phil stole a helment from a football player. Phil may not know this info but Dave ratted Phil out to save his own ass. Phil got fucked by the guy he has been training and helping. Now Phil has nowhere to train. First Dave cheets on the bench and then fucks Phil over.

No wounder why the rest of the world has a good laugh when records are set in the USA. Its amazing when i go and lift at the world championships outside of the USA i see so many USA lifters bomb and question why the Reff red lighted him or her?
Cum on guys get your act together, its just becoming a real joke, the lifting results and world records that are set in the USA.
There are so many good pepole in the sport that so much to offer from the USA. but when this BS comes out i feel like i am a member of a group who cant see whats going on in front of them.

Yes and you are the biggest asshole in history, so what is your point.

His point is that this meet was a complete joke. As if the high squats and belly benches weren't enough, someone shoves a hydraulic jack up his shirt and noone notices it.

Sorry it has taken a little bit to get things worked out but after finally getting to see the video and talking with Louie and others involved, here are the decisions we have made so far on this situation:
1. David Hoff's numbers will not be excepted from the Pro Am. He has been disqualified.
2. He most return the money that he excepted.
3. Matt Wenning moves put to second place and WILL be paid.
4. David has been suspended from the Pro Am and any SPF meet for 1 year from 8/23/09
If he does not return the money he will be suspended until he does.
5. This is just a start and we will try our best to do what is right.

We also want to apologize to every single lifter that was there for this happening. Louie Simmons and Mike Fegerson works there butts off to put on the best meet ever and then someone has to mess it up for everyone. This is far from over.
Jesse Rodgers

crisis? what crisis?
powerlifitng has problems in all federations and is falling into disrepute.
although the example here is the most extreme, there are issues that need adressing across the board - ipf, wpc, wpo, whoever.
the basic rules are the same in most, if not all feds - we (lifters, officials) need to want them applied and enforced before anything will change.

As a Professional Videographer and Video Editor I'll tell you that video wasn't distorted.

There's always someone willing to use the excuse that the video is "edited" hoping no one with actual editing knowledge or experience is among the critics.

But yes, for any past or future accusations, I can assure you that Hoff's stomach was not edited in any of the videos I've seen. Unless the skilled editors of MPEG were contracted to take down Hoff's career, there's no chance.
